Samsung is reportedly ramping up to start OLED panel production for the next-generation iPhone X and iPhone X Plus.

According to a new report, Samsung was hit hard by the downturn in iPhone X sales, which saw Apple slashing order numbers in half. As a result, OLED production was shut down for several months, only to be restarting in May. Capacity will double in June.

Samsung Display will supposedly crank out 2-3 million panels in May, and an additional 4-6 million in June.

This is earlier than Apple usually starts production of its next-gen handsets, but the company is keen to avoid delays. Apple has also reportedly started production on its 3D facial sensors this quarter, earlier than might be expected.

Apple’s 2018 iPhones

Present reports suggest that Apple will be launching three next-gen iPhones this year, in addition to the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. These will include a 5.8-inch iPhone X, a 6.5-inch iPhone X and a 6.1-inch iPhone.

Only the first two of these will include an OLED display, while the 6.1-inch model will reportedly feature an LCD display. All three of the handsets will include an edge-to-edge screen and no Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
