If you missed out on generous launch discounts on iPhone X, don’t despair. There are more right around the corner for Black Friday. Analysts expect carriers to make big price cuts as they fight for new subscribers this fall.
iPhone X is Apple’s most expensive smartphone yet. The most affordable model is $999, but if you’re clever, you can find great deals that cut that price significantly. If you wait a little while longer, you’ll find even more.
‘Aggressive’ iPhone X discounts are coming
Now that T-Mobile’s merger with Sprint has gone down the tubes, Nomura-Instinet analyst Jeffrey Kvaal expects both carriers to offer “aggressive promotions” on iPhone X to attract new subscribers. Competitors will be forced to follow suit.
“We suspect the need to maintain net (subscriber) add momentum will drive Sprint and T-Mobile to offer aggressive promotions starting around Black Friday (Nov. 24 following Thanksgiving),” Kvaal wrote in a note to investors.
“We believe competition will heat up after the recent abnormal lull as the holiday selling season begins, the iPhone X becomes available and cable enters the mix,” adds UBS analyst John Hodulik.
Apple is catching up with iPhone X demand
It’s not clear exactly what those discounts will look like just yet. Some carriers were offering as much as $500 off iPhone X at launch. T-Mobile cut $300 off, while Sprint offered $350 off. Some of these deals are still available, but Black Friday’s could be better.
