The new MacBook Pro apparently has been great business for Apple rival Microsoft.
Mac users are switching to Microsoft’s Surface more than ever before, claims the PC-maker in a new blog post that takes several shots at Apple’s new MacBook Pro and Touch Bar.
“Our trade-in program for MacBooks was our best ever, and the combination of excitement for the innovation of Surface coupled with the disappointment of the new MacBook Pro – especially among professionals – is leading more and more people to make the switch to Surface, like this,” writes Brian Hall, Microsoft VP of devices marketing. “It seems like a new review recommending Surface over MacBook comes out daily. This makes our team so proud, because it means we’re doing good work.”
MacBook Pro problems?
Despite the harsh criticism from Microsoft, Apple has said the new MacBook Pro is its most pre-ordered MacBook Pro ever. Apple has supposedly increased supply chain orders due to the unexpectedly high demand.
Concerns about less-than-mindblowing performance aside, some users have reported problems with the pricey new MacBook Pro, including glitchy video and ridiculously short battery life.
Microsoft launched a promotion earlier this year offering MacBook users up to $650 to trade in their Apple machines for a Surface Book or Surface Pro 4. And in October, Microsoft revealed the new Surface Studio, a giant touchscreen PC, as its first rival for the iMac.

Yes, the MS Surface looks quite stunning: but once again, the os is way too leaky,
easily penetrated, and not very human friendly. I’m not persuaded to switch!
Have you ever use a Windows 10 OS before? It’s very friendly.
No it isn’t. It still sucks.
very friendly? paid shill detected. windows10 is the least user-friendly Windows yet: it has two separate control panels, with settings for the same device (I.E. a mouse, or display settings) split between the two. AND they’re about to remove the command prompt everyone knows and loves and replace it with the “Powershell” a huge clusterfuck of a “command prompt” they will now dictate that you have to use.
Windows 10? Friendly? oh wait: you’re serious; let me laugh even harder!
While I understand frustration with learning something new, you don’t have to navigate to find things anymore. Mac and Windows have very powerful instant search. Also Powershell has the legacy commands aliased so you can still use them. Plus if you are someone who actually uses the command prompt, Powershell is much better.
I use both a Mac and PC in the home and personally don’t have a preference when it comes to use ability of the OS. However Windows has:
– Better hardware options
– Child monitor reports which tell me what websites and apps my son uses and for how long
– Xbox streaming, just plug in a controller and play my Xbox games on any Windows machine.
– Touch comes in handy sometimes ecspecially when more than one person is doing something on the machine
– I love using the pen in One Note
I pretty much use my Mac for the Photos app, web browsing and iMovie.
yeah once i upgrade my old PC I won’t be bringing my Work MacBook home anymore, because while I’m not the biggest fan of Windows 10 it just works way better as a gaming and multimedia machine than a Mac does.
That’s great those things work for you as I have a PC and I HATE win 10!
I also have an Xbox and why would I want to play the games on my PC? It’s a gimmick MS came up with to expand their user base they tried it before and it FAILED!
Also I have my ipad and iphone I can use and transfer data to seamlessly from my mac.
What about your windows phone can you do that no you can’t because windows phones are no longer made!
You can keep the Surface as I have looked at them and they are expensive and cheap! I also do not like MS tech support as they make you pay for it even when you have a new machine! When they have an issue they blame it on your or your hardware like printer network etc. They NEVER take responsibility for their hardware or OS! With Apple if there is an issue they admit to and let people know there is a fix coming!
Sounds like MS tech support really abused you. I guess to each his own. I’ve had the same issue with Apple I don’t pay the yearly Apple Care tax and they refused to replace my Mac Pro screen that was ghosting images. Later I found out it was a widespread issue but I found out too late and they still didn’t fix it.
I also have an iPhone and iPad and they backup / sync wirelessly to Windows 10, no problem there. I agree Windows phone has no apps it would have been the best phone ever in 2006, it was a simpler time back then. I used to love playing snake and brick breaker.
I’m still rocking with my Surface 1 and haven’t had any issues. But I understand where your coming from, my wife gets lost in Windows too. After Windows 8 where they hid all the buttons she was done. I personally don’t care which OS I use, if I need to do something I hit the Googles and BAM now I know how to do it forever.
I agree – Windows 10 is actually pretty great!
I think it has a lot of work for it to be a truly great tablet UI, but as a desktop UI it’s very friendly.
I use it on a daily basis, because I’m paid to. Microsoft has no good taste when it comes to design. Everything is hinged on the Windows Registry which just gets bloated over time. Most config changes require a reboot. However, majority of the time things work fine and you can get the job done, but the user experience is far from what I’d call good.
Next headline release will be “Surface Pro 4 most returned product of the year, Microsoft baffled as to why…”
So… how can this be? Are people “switching”?
Answer: No, probably not. Microsoft has a VERY generous policy when it comes to “old” macs and trade-in value. More than likely people are using the program to trade in older Macs to get a good deal on new hardware, while still maintaining a multi-platform environment. Buy a new MacBook, and trade in the old one to get a new Surface cheap.
That’s what I did. Got a great deal for my old Macbook
Wanna get hacked, you better stay with Mac!
at the end of the day we will all probably get hacked lol
Why do I find this so hard to believe.
It’s an ooze of “lie as a skunk and sb will beleive it’s true and do as we want”
