Tremendous iOS puzzle game Monument Valley has just gone free on iOS for the first time in its history.
Inspired by the surrealistic designs of M.C. Escher, the title is a triumph of isometric design, in which the player guides a princess through a series of impossible structures in a game that Apple lyrically described as, “akin to a walk through a museum or listening to a music album.”
Seriously, download it now.
I’m a massive fan of Monument Valley, as you can gather from the exclusive “making of” feature I wrote shortly after its release.
Since then, the game picked Apple’s Design Awards at last year’s WWDC, and — most recently — got an upgrade optimizing it for the 12.9-inch gorgeousity of the iPad Pro.
Check out the trailer below.
Monument Valley was also a bargain at $3.99, but with its price tag slashed to zero, there’s absolutely no reason why this game shouldn’t be occupying your time for the remainder of the week. At least.

Do download it. If you like puzzles, this one is my favourite of all time, with incredibly beautiful and clever imagery.
I love this game. People say it has low replay value, but I replay it all the time. And it’s delightful every time.
Agree with all-this game is simply stunning.
I would have paid twice what they charged, and free is a complete no-brainier.
Definitely agree. One of the best iOS games I’ve come across. And talking to its creators you can tell how passionate about it they are. Very different to some of the cash cow freemium games we see.
Looking forward to the next update to MV
I just went to send the iTunes link to someone and noticed that Forgotten Shores, the 8 level add-on, is still a $2 in app purchase. So it looks like the free version is just the 10 original levels and Ida’s Dream, the (RED) charity level. Just an FYI. Still totally worth it.
