Entertainment insiders are saying that Oscar-winner Christian Bale will start filming Jobs this Spring as Apple’s late CEO and wonder-boy, Steve Jobs.

According to Variety, Bale is in talks to star as the mercurial tech leader in the movie based on the biography by Walter Issacson and a script written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network).

Jobs will be directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire).

The other front-runner for the role, Leonardo DiCaprio, declined, say sources, to take some time off from acting.

Sorkin has revealed that his script divides itself into three acts, each one set backstage at one of Jobs’ iconic product launch keynotes: The Mac, NeXT, and iPod.

Since Bale has an obvious physical resemblance to Apple’s co-founder and popular pitchman, we’re looking forward to this team and the movie they’ll make together. We’ll just ignore that whole Ashton Kutcher film, though, ok?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t a movie by the same title just release in 2013 staring Ashton Kutcher?

You’re so right, Patrick. But you’re gonna get flames insisting the movie was bad and Kutcher was horrible. I disagree. Kutcher did a fine job of capturing the essence of Steve Jobs. “Jobs” was entertaining, even if there were holes in the story. Besides, the budget was very low, and how could one tell the whole story of this man and the empire he built without leaving out parts and making “alterations.” That’s what studios and directors have been doing since the dawn of cinema.

With luck, he’ll throw one of his infamous fits and the producers will ask him to step right out again. A box office Brit to portray one of the great American inventors and entrepreneurs? I think we can do better than Britman. •Nothing• against British actors at all, but there are a lot of less-predictable actors who could do a great job, right here in the US. Hey, here’s an idea: what about a lesser-known or even unknown actor? They exist!

A brit to play a North American icon. OH MY GOD BLASPHEMY!!! (Sarcasm) comments like these make me laugh. A country who who used white actors to play African and Asian people I their movies and insulting them for fun of the white audience. Christian Bale is a perfect fit for Jobs.

An American actor (who I’m sure would at least like a crack at an audition) would be the “more” perfect fit to play an American icon. As I said above, it has •nothing• to do with British actors in general. But as an actor myself, I feel Americans should at least be considered, rather than studios just heading straight for the easy, bankable “star.” Anyway, you like Bale, fine. I think he’s overrated.

Christian Bale is perfect to play Steve Jobs.

  6. Ian Campbell says:

Sounds like a good casting choice, Bale’s proven himself as a method actor with the likes of the mechanic where he lost a tonne of weight, if he puts the same effort in here this might well be worth a watch.

Good choice. He’ll bring the intensity, anger and zen all in one go.
