A pair of European carriers have told iPhone 4S users not to upgrade to Apple’s latest iOS 6.1 firmware due to the 3G connectivity issues that come with it. Both Vodafone U.K. and 3 Austria have reported the issues, which sometimes makesit difficult for the device to connect to the network, or make or receive calls and texts.
“We’re aware of an issue caused by Apple iPhone 4S handsets that have been upgraded to iOS 6.1 which impacts performance on 3G,” Vodafone said in a statement on Monday morning. “Some customers may occasionally experience difficulty in connecting to the network to make or receive calls or texts or to connect to the internet.”
“Apple is working on a solution to their software issue,” the carrier continued. “These connection problems are intermittent. While Apple’s investigations continue, we would recommend that anyone who has not yet installed iOS 6.1 on their iPhone 4S should delay doing so until Apple has confirmed that the problem has been fixed.”
iOS 6.1 began rolling out in late January, so it’s likely a lot of users will have already upgraded. If you’re one of them and you’re having connection problems, there’s not a lot you can do at this point, unfortunately. Apple doesn’t let you downgrade your iOS software, so you can’t go back to iOS 6 — it’s now a case of waiting for Apple’s fix.
