Apple has finally released iOS 6 to the public, more than three months after the software was first previewed at WWDC. It brings more than 200 new features to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, including Apple’s brand new Maps and Passbook apps, Facebook integration, FaceTime over cellular, enhancements to Siri, Mail, and Phone, and lots, lots more.
You can download iOS 6 from iTunes by plugging your iOS device into your computer and hitting the ‘Update’ button. Alternatively, you can also download it over-the-air directly on your iOS device — you’ll find this option within the Settings app.
iOS 6 is compatible with the following devices:
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5
- iPod touch (4th gen)
- iPod touch (5th gen)
- iPad 2
- New iPad
While you’re installing iOS 6 on your devices, be sure to check out our comprehensive guide to everything that’s new.

5.1.1 “your software is up to date” in MI
Not available in FL yet :(
Edit: Now it is!!!!!!! :D
Only takes 4 minutes to download for me. Now we wait and see about the install
Edit 2: Make that 15 minutes and counting. I guess Apple’s servers are starting to get slammed…
Not available in Singapore yet.
still waiting here! (NC)
I’m in India. Nothing yet
Only a few more minutes until it hits florida. Not going to be on the bleeding edge of “on time” though folks. So just be patient. :D
in texas, still says 5.1.1 is the most up to date :(
Still waiting in Boston….
In California. No dice.
I’m in LA-CA
Not Yet
It was available in MA, but now it’s not…
It popped up again, went to download it and it quit on me. Grrr..
Ahhh.. There we go! Downloading in MA :)
I just restarted my phone and the download showed up…18 minutes remaining!!
still 5.1.1 here
hawaii is up and running
Southern California has it. iPhone is taking forever to finish (iPhone 4 Verizon). Waiting for that to finish to do my iPad.
I’m also going thru iTunes. Much faster then downloading it straight in Settings.
So have been trying to update OTA for my iPad2 (jailbroken) and it’s errored out at the end, maybe 4-5 times now. Searching online showed one comment (from back in March) that one cannot update iOS OTA when jailbroken..that we must use iTunes. I’m doing that now (downloading is SLOW, either way). Just looking to confirm this point? If so…truly wish this had been pointed out in all the “let’s prepare for iOS 6” articles that came out.. Thanks
Been playing around with iOS 6 now for a while and love it. It took about 70 minutes to install on my iPad 2, and about 50-60 on my iPhone 4S
OTA does not work when jailbroken. This was pointed out back when iOS 5 came out.
I’m having so many problems after the upgrade (on iPhone 4). This is a shambolic launch. Contacts, passbook, Facebook integration, nothing works, phone keeps crashing… this is the sort of stuff that’s supposed to happen to Microsoft!! not Apple!
oh and Maps just sucks!
