16. The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers

There has never been, nor is there likely to ever be a band quite like the Rolling Stones. And Sticky Fingers, also released in 1971, showed them rising to the top of their game musically, where they would arrive with the following year’s Exile on Main Street. From the standpoint of cover art, however, nothing had ever quite approached Sticky Fingers‘ bulging crotch shot, complete with real, live interactive zipper. As it turns out, in the nearly 40 years since, we can’t think of anything that’s quite approached it again.

15. Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy

Quite controversial when first released in 1973 this album was actually banned from being sold in parts of the American south – naked children exploited for commerce! Times have changed, haven’t they?
