While some reports have claimed that Apple’s new iPad will get a small price increase today, the new 1080p Apple TV is expected to maintain the same $99 price tag.
A source for 9to5Mac claims that although the new Apple TV will get Bluetooth 4.0 and a faster processor capable of churning out 1080p high-definition video, it won’t cost any more than its predecessor:
We’ve gotten a few more tidbits about tomorrow’s Apple TV announcement (Oh, there will be a new iPad too!). The Apple TV J33 model, MD199LL/A – J33 BEST -USA, which we’ve covered before will come in at the same $99 price point (and similar prices globally). We know from previous reports that it will have updated hardware internally including Bluetooth 4.0 Broadcom chip as well as a higher powered processor capable of 1080P video.
We’ve had no confirmation that we will see a new Apple TV today, but with its code name appearing in the latest iOS 5.1 beta and 98% of Apple retail stores in the U.S. out of stock of the existing model, it certainly seems as though it’s on the cards. We’ll know for sure in just a few hours.

Hear that? That’s the sound of people hitting their ISP data cap.
Why do you guys in america still have data caps…
Here in the netherlands we only have data caps on cheap mobile phone data subscriptions…
Good question. Due to lack of infrastructure upgrading (or just greed) many ISPs normally include data caps and throttling clauses in the TOS. Granted those data caps are usually around 150-250GB. I’ve never hit that, but a coworker has. So one can fathom with HD streaming, we’ll likely see more about these data caps in the blogs soon.
This sounds like the start of a joke. “Here in the netherlands…”
The actual joke is to have data caps with prices being so high ….
I hope i could at least get one on Friday to hold me over til next Friday when I get my new iPad 3, a week with no iPad 2 is gonna be tough.
You probably do have data caps, you’re just not told, like over here.
“the same $99 price point (and similar prices globally). A similar price globally would be nice – £99 (the current price in the UK) is not similar to $99.
High-speed communication for everyone in the USA is a challenge even for wired networks. It’s a big country with huge tracts of wide open, shallowly populated areas.
