Apple Releases OS X Lion 10.7.1

Apple has just released the first public update to OS X Lion since the software’s initial release. OS X 10.7.1 is now available in Software Update for Mac users running Apple’s latest desktop operating system.

The main purpose of OS X 10.7.1 is bug fixes, and it’s recommended that all Lion users upgrade.

“The 10.7.1 update is recommended for all users running OS X Lion and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability and compatibility of your Mac, including fixes that:

  • Address an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when playing a video in Safari
  • Resolve an issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out
  • Improve the reliability of Wi-Fi connections
  • Resolve an issue that prevents transfer of your data, settings, and compatible applications to a new Mac running OS X Lion

Apple has also been seeding a beta of OS X 10.7.2 to developers for testing purposes with iCloud.

A direct link for the OS X Lion 10.7.1 update has been provided for MacBook Air and Mac Mini 2011 users. The specific bugs fixes for that hardware include:

  • Resolves an issue where MacBook Air may boot up when MagSafe Adapter is attached
  • Resolves an issue causing intermittent display flickering on MacBook Air
  • Resolves an issue that causes the SD card slot in Mac mini to run at reduced speed with SD and SDHC media
