AppleMMrefund

Apple has started to issue refund checks for MobileMe subscriptions. My check arrived from Apple today. Have you gotten yours? And I know what you are thinking — yes I’ve spent mine already. On Apple stuff no less.

If you haven’t asked for a refund it might not be too late.  Here’s the information about MobileMe refunds for those of you that might have missed the news last month.

If you have a renewal pending and it isn’t applied like I did then Apple will issue you a refund, but you have to request it. It isn’t clear if users who recently paid for a renewal will get a refund or not. If you did please leave a comment about your experience with that.

Per Apple via this support document:

What’s happening to MobileMe?

Effective June 6, 2011, if you had an active MobileMe account, your service has been automatically extended through June 30, 2012, at no additional charge. After this, the MobileMe service will no longer be available.

What will happen to the content I have on MobileMe?

Apple has announced a new service called iCloud which will be available this fall and free for iOS 5 and OS X Lion users. When you sign up for iCloud, you’ll be able to keep your me.com or mac.com email address and move your MobileMe mail, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks to the new service.

When iCloud becomes available this fall, more details and instructions will be provided on how to make the move.

Can I create a new MobileMe account?
You can no longer create a new 60-day trial account or start a new subscription using a code contained in a MobileMe box. However, if you have a Family Pack subscription, you can still create new family member accounts.
Can I upgrade to a Family Pack or purchase additional storage?
Effective June 6, 2011, you can no longer upgrade your Individual account to a Family Pack or purchase additional storage for your MobileMe account.
I purchased a MobileMe box and have not used the activation code inside. Can I get refund for it?
Yes. If you have an unused activation code from a MobileMe box, you can submit a refund request.

Personally, I think anyone who asked for a refund is a dumbass.

It’s pretty cheap in the first place, (most people spend more on coffee in a given day), and to bail out of a service before you even see what the next service is going to be, or what is going to make the transition and what isn’t, is waaay   premature and … well, dumb.

I’ll just keep my free year. My account was supposed to expire next Thursday. Not worth the bother for the few dollars I would get prorated back to me.

Haven’t even found a webdav service for my 20 GB of files yet. Going to see if I can set it up with my webhost. Even then, my me.com email address has been my primary email address for over a year. Do you know how hard it is to actually change an email address? Pain in the rear, let me tell you.

It is kind of cheap from Apple for mobileme members who renewed theirs but they don’t get anything beside only cancelling, and anyone who bought a mobileme box previous WWDC, so they get free service after getting their money back. Its weak. Of course, I renewed my account in February. =/

It’s strange for me! Who is using paper check in XXI century???
We in Europe use electronic bank transfer :-)

but if i cancel my me account, I will not have email?  shouldn’t you wait until it becomes free and then cancel it for a refund?

You really put a lot of effort into those mockups – like your vision, even though I disagree that this is going to be the future.
But still, I liked it! Good job!

You, in Europe, also mostly only use bargeld/cash and rarely debit cards.  Yes, we still use paper checks for some refunds.  Note – we also have this EFT feature too.

Thank you. I was going to keep it for my portfolio but my friend told me to share it. Apple could give Ping a boost though, i think it still has a shot.
