Much beloved Spotify has been trying to launch in America for years now. During that time, they’ve faced considerable challenges in convincing a music industry worried about alienating Apple to give the greenlight to their excellent all-you-can-stream subscription service.

But it’s finally come together, and now there’s even a firm date being thrown around: the freemium music service will launch in the States between July 5th and july 15th.

The news comes from a pub called Noisecast, who claim to have obtained an email from a major label executive naming those dates as Spotify’s official launch window with all of the labels on board.

The service will have changed from its European counterpart when it does launch, though. While Spotify’s excellent desktop and mobile offerings will be available domestically as well, Spotify’s free subscription service will not be: by reports, Spotify’s ad-supported free service had to go before Warner Music would ink a deal.

I’m glad to see Spotify finally coming to the States, but much of me wonders if this is all too late at this point. Not only is iTunes Match about to make all of our music libraries available in the cloud, but Spotify-like services like Rdio are already doing a great job offering subscription music streaming to Americans. Spotify’s a great service, but it may have missed its window.
