Journalists Cover Microsoft, Using Macs

It’s not an easy time for Microsoft — with Steve Ballmer having to field questions about being “buffoons” and an “evil empire”  at the shareholder’s meeting (.doc) — so when they get together “the world’s most influential technology pundits and online writers” (nb: we weren’t invited) for Mobius to discuss super-secret mobile tech you’d think [...]

Review: Voices Is Today’s Best Thing Ever, Grab It Now While It’s Cheap

New on the App Store is Voices from the clever folk at Tap Tap Tap. You can guess what it does.

Open it up, pick a silly voice. Helium is pretty silly. A microphone appears and the app even clears your throat for you (try it, you’ll see what I mean). Now speak your brains, and [...]

Review: Sony Walkman S540 Series Video MP3 Player

Press releases, you will hardly be surprised to hear, are rarely very interesting. But one arrived in my inbox a couple of weeks ago that made me double-take.
“Sony’s S Series Walkman,” it chattered, “is a serious challenger to the iPod Nano.” Gosh, really? Perhaps the Cult had better have a look at one, then, despite [...]

WWDC: Apple Announces New MacBooks with Built-In Battery

wwdc2009-150.jpg

Apple’s first big product announcement at Monday’s WWDC Keynote was an all-new 15″ MacBook with an all-new display and built-in battery.

Starting at $1699, the new notebook computer is the fastest notebook Apple has ever made. With up to 3.06 Dual Core CPU, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive, the device also comes with an optional 256GB Solid State Drive.

The audience at WWDC could hardly contain itself as Apple CIO Phil Schiller continued to detail upgrades to the company’s entire notebook line: The 17″ MacBook Pro has also been updated — 2.8GHz CPU, 500GB HD; it retains the ExpressCard Slot.

The biggest news, however could be the new 13″ notebook. The 13″ MacBook is now called a MacBook Pro. It starts at $1,199. Cheaper than the MacBook it replaces, it gets the new display specs, an SD card slot and Firewire is back! Ranges from $1,199 to $1,499 in standard configurations.

All products are shipping today.

Go figure I bought a macbook Sunday night, and now they update them to macbook pros with the 13 inch screen. Is there anyway to switch for the new one.

@chris, yeah, you have 14 days to return the product under apple’s return policy (unless it was a special, custom order). but i’m pretty sure apple will upgrade it for you no charge if you take it down to the store. i’d give them a call first, though.

    @Chris
    I ABSOLUTELY feel for you.
They upgrade the MacBook TWICE in the space of a few months & then replace THAT with the MacBook Pro at less price.
I really hope you can work something out with the store & return it so you can get the new MBP-13 inch.
The only thing I can say is you know WDC09 is in 24 hours & could wait for that time just in case something like this happens

I don’t know if they will take it back I mean I ordered it online with some custom stuff if you call it customised, I mean like backlit keyboard and apples version of office, the warranty. My mom ordered it so I don’t know what else was included.

Oh, and I wanted to also mention if I were to return it at an apple store which is 10 minutes away from me, can I order a custom macbook there, and pick it up at the store?
