Apple’s next small tablet isn’t coming soon, no matter what previous rumors indicated. A trusted analyst and Apple prognosticator says the 2021 iPad mini won‘t be on the market until the second half of the year.

According to unconfirmed reports, this will be a significantly redesigned device, with a larger display.

The next Apple product-release event will happen April 20. Invites went out Tuesday morning for the virtual “Spring Loaded” event, just hours after Siri leaked the date.

Naturally, Apple didn’t announce what’s on the agenda. But rumors point to multiple new iPads, as well as the possibility of next-gen AirPods, a faster Apple TV and the long-awaited debut of AirTags item trackers.

Siri may have just revealed the date for Apple’s rumored April event. According the voice assistant, Apple’s next event will take place one week from now on April 20.

This is likely to be the event at which Apple debuts its next-gen iPad Pro, the eagerly anticipated AirTags item trackers and a new iPad mini.

Dummy mockups of the next-gen iPad Pro and iPad mini suggest that they could look very similar to their predecessors. According to the images, the next-gen iPad mini boasts the same design as the iPad mini 5, released in 2019, although it may be slightly thicker.

Meanwhile, the next-gen iPad Pro resembles the last generation model, with a possible slightly less protruding camera bump on the larger 12.9-inch model.

There’s a bit more evidence that the iPad mini 6 will feature a dramatic redesign. A mockup of the tablet leaked out, showing an edge-to-edge display and an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

Other sources previously pointed to Apple’s smallest tablet getting a size upgrade in the near future.

The next iPad mini could be a bit less mini. Apple reportedly will expand the tablet from a 7.9-inch screen to an 8.4-inch one in the version coming in Q1 2021.

If true, the change would hardly be unprecedented. Apple has enlarged the displays in all other iPad models in recent years.

The iPad mini has a 7.9-inch screen surrounded by bezels. Big ones. So a concept artist drew up some images that show how much smaller this tablet could be with an edge-to-edge display. The result is a device that’s nearly 20% smaller.

But Apple might be going in the opposite direction: making a mini with a larger screen.

Macintosh Plus gets touchscreen upgrade with the help of iPad

Imagine how futuristic this would have looked in 1986.
Photo: Travis DeRose

Face it: Apple’s probably never going to make a touchscreen Mac. It’s definitely never going to make a touchscreen Mac that looks like the 1986-era Macintosh Plus.

Fortunately, engineer and Mac fan Travis DeRose has stepped up to the plate to show us what such a glorious amalgamation of concepts would look like — by building what essentially amounts to a Mac Plus case for his iPad mini. No, it’s not particularly practical, but it is neat looking. Check out his video below.

Apple will pay you up to $240 for an iPad Pro. That's it!
Photo: Ian Fuchs/Cult of Mac

Apple is offering laughably low trade-in rates for old iPad Pro models. You can make a maximum of $240 if you have a high-end device with bags of storage that’s still in good condition. But 2018 iPad Pro models are worth a lot more than that.

Cult of Mac will pay you up to $300 for a base model 11-inch iPad Pro with just 64GB of storage. That figure rises to $400 for a 512GB model, while a 12.9-inch iPad Pro can earn you as much as $500.

This could slash the price of your upgrade to a new drool-worthy 2020 iPad Pro by more than half! Get a quote from us today and find out how much your old iPad is really worth.
