Security Expert: “Mac OS X Is Safer, But Less Secure”

20100319-ipwned.jpg

Tech site H-Online has an interesting story today, quoting security expert Charlie Miller about his forthcoming talk at the CanSecWest conference next week.
He says OS X is full of security holes. There are lots more than in Windows, he claims.
And yet: OS X is a safer system to use. Why? Because, in the words [...]

Apple Devotes Entire Home Page To Jerome York Obituary

20100318-york.jpg

If ever you needed a sign that Apple was a different kind of technology company, this is it.
What other computer manufacturer would remove its top-selling, hype-inducing, industry-altering new product from the prime spot on its website home page, and replace it with an obituary to an investor?
This is one of those “Here’s to the [...]

Steve Jobs Is Parked In a Handicapped Spot, And His Car Is Probably Still There

steve_jobs_car

Twitter user livelovelight just posted this picture of Steve Jobs’ car in a handicapped spot at Apple’s campus. The snap was posted at 2.43 PST — about half an hour ago. Steve’s car is probably still there.

Forty minutes earlier, livelovelight tweated that he’d just missed Jobs: “At apple headquarters. Just missed steve jobs by 2 minutes,” he said.

Jobs is famous for parking in the handicapped spots (check out this hilarious gallery), but perhaps now he’s recovering from a liver transplant he has a genuine handicapped permit. I don’t see it hanging off the mirror though. He must have taken it with him.

And here he is talking to Jonny Ive. This picture was uploaded to Skitch about 33 minutes ago.

I don’t understand why he just doesn’t have his name planted in front of his favorite spot on campus. I’m pretty sure the Board will let him do that.

He’s an arrogant guy, and I don’t actually care. I don’t like him, I like his ideas.

I can’t believe you actually promote this borderline stalking.

    o_O

He still doesn’t have his plates on either…

For your info, Job’s has had a Permit for 5 plus years, It is not displayed just like his license plate is not displayed, He has a permit allowing him to do this, Just like hundreds of other’s are permitted to.

Allot of permit users are issued a special chip, almost like GPS that allows for immediate validation and permit issuance.

And yes, Plain and simple this is stalking… And it is WRONG.

You know to be credible and newsworthy you should have facts.. This Posting is Neither Credible or Newsworthy and with many Flaws.

Im actually registered disabled and it REALLY pisses me off when people without permits park in spaces designed for those with genuine disabilities, but for living legend Steve Jobs, i make acception.

When will he be made a sir? Soon i hope.

How come he has no rear number plate? Is that allowed? I thought that was illegal??

Leander, people have been polite and people have been direct in expressing their distaste about these kinds of stories on Cult of Mac. However, you persevere in presenting these stories which are little better than rummaging around some public figures trash.

You and your site are better than this. Please stop.

On a separate note, the term ‘handicapped’ is seen as pejorative nowadays. Perhaps ‘disabled’ is less controversial.

FYI, we are still following PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) here in Cali, not PST.

Who f&*(ng cares. Get a job. Go do something that adds value to the world, instead of snapping/posting pix of cars the belong to people who are actually doing stuff to make life better.

What’s the deal with this stalking? I think it’s stupid and wrong.

This is NOT newsworthy. Do you seriously not have anything better to do?

since Steve never leaves the plates on his car we can’t speak to whether he might have been issued a DP plate due to his various medical conditions. for all we know, he has. and thus there is no issue with his parking there. As for Mr MacDonald’s questions, only citizens in a country that actually knight folks can receive it, so no, he won’t be Sir Steve Jobs anytime soon.

And since it doesn’t have tags, is the van/truck to the left also his?

Should I care about this? How about someone staking out the restrooms at Apple to see when SJobs uses them and if he went number one or two.

“Hmmmm, there’s a very pungent smell in here and the seat is warm so I think Mr. Jobs just took a shit. It seems like he had something with Tofu and Curry for his latest meal.”

Don’t post these stupid parking stories anymore, please.

Can’t someone place a card “hey, handicapped only” on his windshield to see how he reacts?

Or even better, ask the police to “tow an incorrectly parked vehicle”?

@Charli – so the former Mayor of NYC Rudy Giuliani is a citizen of United Kindgom? They can be knighted, but not called Sir or Dame…so it would be KBE Jobs

Anyways, this is a dumb story

BFT! Steve has parked in this spot for years!!! What a non-story!

So you all think this is dumb and a non-story?
I guess no one has ever tried to lower themselves
to a wheelchair when you cannot get out of your vehicle, because you had to park in a standard parking spot.

There is a reason this is illegal. i guess if you are rich, you can ignore that law, huh?

Jesus, why the hell is this junk on Cult of Mac? Is it a trash gossip tabloid now?

So what…. he deserves it after what he has been through. I am a stage IV cancer patient and somedays just walking into the store is the most tiring part of shopping. I am this close to applying for a disabled plate.

Did somebody call 911, cause I hear a “waaaaaa”mbulance. Seriously, people, if you have a problem with the posting don’t take time to post moronic comments about it. No matter how stupid you say these postings are, your fucking asinine bullshit bitching is orders of magnitude worse. Really, shut the fuck up NOW.

I’m looking at you: Enda G, doug, Seth, The Rude Bellman, Nemo49 and Joseph

Since this is not a public car park, the rules for use are set by Apple. I think it’s very generous that the CEO allows disabled people to use his reserved parking spot, and even advertises this, even though it may sometimes mean he has to park elsewhere.

@ Church of Apple. Smash! There goes the greenhouse!

Seems that the heads of companies feel they deserve the handicap spots more than the handicap…even if there aren’t any. The former CEO of my company would always part in the disabled parking spot with his array of 20 different cars (literally 20). His only disability was being a jackass to his employees when he was upset. I wanted to have his car towed every time I saw that!

One thing for sure………….he better never ever drink alcoholic beverages . Hope he sticks with smoking his medicine ( marijuana ) .Mr . Jobs , like millions of others are taking the smart alternative to Acoholic beverages which not only can kill you but , can cause health problems for ever .
