An interesting rumor floating around today suggests that Apple might be using the holidays around Thanksgiving to migrate its iTunes services to their huge North Carolina data centers.

The rumor was first reported by 148Apps.biz, who note that Apple developers have been advised that not only will the company go forward with their yearly Christmas shutdown of the iTunes Connect service, but that a similar shutdown for less clearly stated reasons will happen during the Thanksgiving holidays.

It’s an interesting report if true, mostly in that it will finally give an obvious, concrete purpose to Apple’s massive new data center. However, developers appear to be somewhat wary of the rumor: if true, they worry that the lock down of services around Thanksgiving will severely impact — if not totally eliminate — their opportunities to capitalize on Black Friday with some App STore sales.
