Manage Multiple iTunes Accounts With Simple Script Switching

Got multiple iTunes accounts? Tired of switching manually from one to the other all the time?

If you’re in that position, you might like to check out this thread on Reddit, which offers a few solutions to make your life easier.

The first AppleScript at the top of the thread sets the scene. You have to fill in your user account details (including passwords), then every time you run it, it will automatically switch to your other iTunes account.

That’s convenient, but not terribly secure, because your password is stored inside the script itself.

Further down, other Redittors have added their own versions, including one that makes use of the system keychain to store passwords – a much more secure option.

Having more than one iTunes account can be a huge pain in the ass, but there are benefits, especially if you live outside the US. These scripts are the closest thing you’re going to get to Fast User Switching for iTunes accounts, to they might come in useful for some people.

This script doesn’t work. You get an error:

Can’t get menu bar 1 of process “iTunes”. Invalid index.
