Get Your Hands on Mac OS X Lion Now Without Being a Dev!

By

Mac OS X 10.7

Now that you’ve read all those stories of the nice new features packed into Mac OS X Lion, I’m sure you’re dying to get your hands on the Developer Preview and try them out for yourself. Luckily for those of you not signed up to the Mac Developer Program, there are already a few websites out there that are selling access to the beta release.

Unfortunately, it’s not quite as easy as just downloading and installing the software onto your Mac – your system first needs to be authorized to use developer releases. This means signing up to the service at $99 per year – which is pretty costly just to play around with Developer Previews.

That’s where LEi Mobile comes in: all they ask for is a donation of at least $10 and in return they’ll authorize your Mac through their developer account and enable you to download and install the Lion preview on your system. But be quick – they’re already selling like hot cakes and won’t be around for too long.

We’ll keep hunting for other sites offering this service and update this story as frequently as necessary. If you know of another site offering this service, let us know in the comments!

Please note that installing developer previews on your Mac is very risky, and not recommended on your main system. The previews are previews for a reason and lots can go wrong with these builds. Cult of Mac is in no way associated with any of the websites selling Lion access, and we accept no responsibility for any damage to your system or data.

  23. Gazoobee says:

This isn’t a “service” it’s called violating an NDA. This site absolutely freaking *DISGUSTS* me now. If it isn’t Kahaney hawking crap hardware for his friends so he can get a deal himself, or Killian posting advertisements so he can get free software it’s articles like the one above this telling us all about stuff in the next OS that they signed an agreement never to divulge. Cult of Mac has to be the lowest, most immoral, scumbag site on the net now.

  24. Moritz Schmale says:

You can also load a torrent, thats as illegal as this.

  25. Fred M. says:

Shouldn’t the title be “Get Your Paws on Mac OS X Lion Now Without Being a Dev!”?

  26. Fred M. says:

    Take your sanctimonious crap elsewhere.

Apple has already publicly announced Lion and all of the major features and enhancements that it currently includes. This isn’t some secret project in its infancy that has been shared with only a handful of key business partners. It’s something undergoing beta testing at the hands of tens of thousands of developers – and non-developers who paid $99 to join the developer program.

If you don’t like this website, then quit visiting it and driving up its page load count — which only increases the perceived value to advertisers.

  27. Matt Harris says:

Ok I am downloading it now but I am worried about loading it on my iMac, do you think it is safe? Please reply.

  28. erfon elijah says:

agreed, that pic is is wonderful

  29. Macman says:

    Try http://macosxactivation.com
    Fast service. Just tried it.

  30. James Stevenson says:

I just registered as an Apple Developer with my existing Apple ID and was thinking about paying $99 for the Mac Developer Program before seeing this story.

Should I de-register from the Apple Developer program before donating my $10?

Also, is it possible to delete Lion once installed and revert to Snow Leopard?

  31. Download says:

    Interesting and useful post

  32. GrimWit says:

Probably to late but you should keep developer registration as it makes it faster. You would want to install Lion in a separate partition or external drive. You can blow away the partition when you are done. No need to blow away SL.

  33. Chris says:

I will be personally selling spots for OSX lion.
Email me at [email protected], I will be taking $10 donations to get you a preview of lion.

  34. Johnny34 says:

I just installed Lion, no effort at all!
    http://www.macosxactivation.com
    Only $10

  35. Benjamin Dyer says:

I signed up for the $10 access yesterday and received access very quickly, no idea if it helped but my ID was already on the developer program. Lion was a bit of a pain to download via the app store but its installed and working on my 2010 13″ MBP. So far so good, there are a few bugs (closing the lid seems to result in various problems that almost always need a hard reset). Multitouch and spaces are great.

If I can figure out how to get the power sorted on sleep then I think I’ll keep it installed.

    Thanks LEi Mobile

  36. Nick says:

has anyone else tried this macosxactivation.com? i want to try it but it seems like a scam.

  37. AdamantineAngel says:

Apple really needs to get with the program and follow the Linux community’s lead: Release a free no-frills version of OSX and a feature-packed retail-only version. And yes, uncle Jobs… you really do need to work on a PC compatible version if you ever expect to win converts, otherwise the PC sheep will remain content to go where the Win-Blows.

  38. Timthepilot says:

i have slots still available for anyone that wants lion. its 10 dollars threw paypal and then i can give you all the links to get the software. email me if you want the software. [email protected]

    Best Regards
    Laith

  40. Kinpota says:

i can see where your coming from but have you thought about….
