If ever you needed a sign that Apple was a different kind of technology company, this is it.

This is one of those “Here’s to the [...]

Bizarre Anomaly – Sale at SF Apple Store

Apple On Sale

It used to be that three things in life were inevitable: Death, taxes, and paying full Price at retail Apple Stores. Not anymore – scratch the last one off the list. Yes, Virginia – Apple does sell things at clearance prices sometimes.

I ducked into the Union Square Apple Store in San Francisco on Sunday afternoon and stumbled upon two big, clear plastic bins full of cut-rate merchandise – some of it Apple’s, including a Mighty Mouse for $10 off, Magsafe Power Adapters at almost 50 percent off, previous gen Mac minis for $70 off and, my personal favorite, the wretched official Apple iPod leather case for half price. If you’re in need of some gear, definitely check your local Apple Store to see if they’ve got something similar going.

I only got the one picture on my camera-phone – Apple employees were milling about, and I wasn’t in the mood to have my phone seized. Anyone else spotted a sale at an Apple Store?

Apple Lynnwood, WA and Bellevue, WA regularily had clearence items over the last weekend of every month, includign minis, iMacs and ‘books…

    Yes, many times.

I saw on in the Apple Store in Saint Louis, where I picked up an iPod Universal dock, remote, and camera cable for $50 (together!)
Then there was one in Austin, Tx where I grabbed some adapters and an FW iPod cable.

Then, there were at least 2 others where all they had was old Macs, cameras, and printers. Not that I don’t want a new Mac, but I don’t have the money.

By the time anyone reads this, BTW: Everythign will probably be gone – they usually have a dozen people tearing through the sales bin, so count on everything to be gone very soon.

The Apple Stores actually always have this merchandise in the back. You just have to ask to see it and they never actively promote it. Once a month they have what’s called a “Fire Sale” where they put this product out. How do you ask for it? Ask any Mac Specialist if there is any “Refreshed” merch. Deals to be had all the time :)

The Apple Store in Oklahoma City had a table full of what I assumed to be returns and other hard to get rid of merchandise in the back by the registers last weekend. It had some great deals on it, like the new Airport Extreme N router for $150, wireless Mighty Mouse for $30, and other geegaws.

yeah, it’s all open box items. they sell “refresh” stuff everyday, just don’t always put it out on the floor.

They’re called Fire Sales. All of the apple stores with the exceptions of flagship stores have them at the end of every month. Palo Alto never has them either because that’s ‘Steve’s store’ and it has has to be perfect, which means no sale table.

The Refreshed items are always available at about 10-20% off. Although sometimes much much more. They take that 10% restocking fee off of the price of CPUS/ipods when someone returns them and sell them at a discount. If you get there when something new comes out you can usually get the last model for 30% off. When the intel iMacs came out all of those G5 imacs that had only been out for 2 months were about half price. I snagged one for my folks.
