Following the release of OS X Lion last month, some early adopters ran into issues when attempting to install Xcode 4.1 that meant installing the software was rather difficult. Apple has now addressed this in the Xcode 4.1.1 update.

Its previous issue meant that during Xcode’s installation, users were prompted to quit iTunes if they had it running. However, when iTunes was killed completely, the alert did not disappear and made installation difficult for many users. Apple issued a support document that advised users to quit the ‘iTunesHelper’ process using Activity Monitor, which allows Xcode to be installed without issues.

However, today’s Xcode update fixes that iTunes installation alert, according to Apple’s release notes, making for a seamless Xcode installation:

What’s New in Version 4.1.1

This is a delta update to Install Xcode.app that fixes the “Installation Alert” to quit iTunes. You do not need to re-run the installer if you already have Xcode 4.1 for Lion successfully installed, as the included tools are unchanged in this update.

Those of you that have successfully installed Xcode 4.1 already do not need to install it again, but for those of you that haven’t, Xcode 4.1.1 is now available for free in the Mac App Store.
