DLing it now. took about 8 minutes to DL. it’s installing now. :) can’t wait to try out the new features. Plus, the proximity sensor finally getting fixed. that’s been the only small problem i’ve had w/ the phone.

Very disappointing. HDR is only for the iPhone 4? I guess all I had to look forward to for this update was Game Center

  • Chris

Since I got an iPhone 3GS and looking at the features, I don’t really see a point in updating.

Most features aim at iPhone 4 and then there’s the speed bump for the 3G. Games center doesn’t really isn’t of particular interest to me… sooo what’s the point? Maybe wait for iOS 4.2 in November?

Anyone has another view on this?

ps: unless the speedbump also works on the 3GS, but I first wanna see some proof of that (I wouldn’t mind just a tiny bit more smoothness, as I’m sure most 3GS owners would)

The speed bump is for all devices. Game Center seems to work but I can not find any compatible games at all.

  • Chris

    Just something i wondered about…

Why is a speed bump supposed to make your phone go faster while usually speed bumps on a road make you slow down?

    Chris,

The November iOS 4.2 is only for the iPad, I guess… Or else?

  • Chris

Uhm… I thought it was both for iPhone and iPad… that’s how I understood it from Jobs’ keynote… But then again I might be wrong…

I have held my iPhone 3G back at iOS 3.1.3 because of nightmare experiences I have read online of individuals trying to use their 3G iPhones with iOS 4. Is there a consensus that it is now safe to upgrade an iPhone 3G to iOS 4.1?

  • firesign3000

If 4.1 really does fix the proximity sensor I will be a happy boy. Anything else is gravy.

Completely worthless update for 3Gs owners. I am not a gamer, so Game Center is useless to me. Evidently HDR is only for the iPhone4, something Steve neglected to mention in his presentation. Maybe the 4.2 update on Nov 30 will have something for my phone, but I’m beginning to doubt it, the 3Gs has been relegated to non-support with this update, and I’ve only had it one year!

Transition from GM to Official FM complete. No issues to report, baseband and carrier files have been updated in general and things are generally snappier. Phone did become hot though after all was said and done.

Have upgraded my 3G to 4.1 after 4.0 practically killed it and I would NOT say it has solved the slowdown issue significantly. The improvement is very slight and the SMS screen still takes so long to load it is almost unusable.

Yes , after update to IOS 4.1, Users would be able to upload HD videos over WiFi and iPhone 4 would get High Dynamic Range for shooting HD photos. Also users will get the social gaming network – Game Center etc. that is so wonderful ~~ i will update it soon…however, i am using the iphone 3G, and i can’t use the Game center after update to IOS 4.1. but others feature attract me as well , i can use my ipod 3g update to IOS 4.1 , than i will download a Aneesolt free ipod touch video converter . as for the Galaxy x , it is a nice device as well , but i have had a iphone , i will not buy another phone again…

So… looks like theres no fix for the proximity sensor issue :( I’m having the exact same issues as before the update. What an absolute shame. In the mean time, I found a free app that kinda sorta helps. It called call guard, and once you’re on a call you need to press home button, tap the app, and a screen pops up and doesn’t let your cheek hit anything… it also counts the number of times you hit which is pretty cool. Still, for a piece of equipment like this, IT’S UNACCEPTABLE!

I read some reviews of 4.1 that claim that their sensor issues are 100% better. You know my stance… anyone else want to chime in? I’m curious…
