Rumor: iLife 2010 To Drop Sometime In The Next 2 Months

Rumor: iLife 2010 To Drop Sometime In The Next 2 MonthsWe haven’t seen a new iLife release since January 2009, so common sense says that the software suite is probably about due for an update early next year.

So should you take this Amazon.fr iLife 2010 for Dummies as confirmation of a forthcoming update?

It’s hard to say: one the one hand, the book is set for release on September 23rd, so unless Apple announces iLife 2010 at their September iPod conference, we’re not going to see it this year.

On the other hand, iLife 2008 was released in August, so it’s not completely unprecedented for Apple to just drop an update into the middle of the year like this without a lot of fanfare.

Personally, I’m hoping for the latter: at the very least, I’d welcome an update to iPhoto.

perhaps ilife will include some sort of front row implementation of iOS this time. that would be sweet

  • Bob

It’s pure guessing…the book publishers/distributors know absolutely nothing about Apple’s release plans.

Surely they would name it iLife 2011 even if released fairly soon?

  • Bob

^^^You betcha. Look at the iLife ’08 example…released in August 2007.

Apple is careful not to make its products look dated, so they’d go with the future-looking “iLife ’11″ at this point.

They even dropped the “09″ designation from iLife ’09 late last year so that it wouldn’t appear dated heading into 2010.

Psych! Can’t wait to pay again.

To tell you the truth, I am kind of content with iLife ’09 right now. I’d rather wait longer for a better release with more bells and whistles than a forced release of weak and similar software…..

Apple could use iLife as their next move to expand their cloud services, everyone is talking about iTunes in the cloud but what about iPhoto in the cloud and full syncing and integration with iOS for cloud based syncing!

Also iWork11 as a combined cloud app environment could be the product to knock Office out of their stranglehold on office apps. Google and MSFT’s cloud based editors are lame, ugly and hard to use. Apple has shown with the recent updates to MobileMe that they can make web apps that work better and look better than anything Google and MSFT can do.

Funny. From the headline, i thought apple will take iLife off the market!

Does anyone even use iWeb? I’ve never touched it in the three years I’ve had a Mac.

The iLife 09 upgrade in iMovie was fantastic, the upgrade in iPhoto was annoying. My pictures wouldn’t sync with apple tv anymore, my slideshows wouldn’t import music from itunes without a lot of trouble. An iMovie like upgrade to iPhoto would be worth the price.

Be cool to get updated GarageBand and iWeb!

If and when they update iLife, it won’t be concerned to any great overhaul of existing apps: it will be a new software to publish your own iBook or iMagazine or a more student oriented iPaper something in that line, including easy to use features to make index, content table and publish rich media not only text but also video and audio. Imagine have your school paper done in such beautiful way??

How good they are at Amazon! lol
They removed the title and the frontpage picture but they left all the product description available :D Each time for the Apple softwares, the buzz is created that way.

iLife is almost always tied to the iMacs….. because iLife (formerly AppleWorks formerly ClarisWorks) is historically tied to the iMac consumer product, and targeted towards iMac customers.

So my prediction is that we will likely see new version of iLife when we also see new releases of new iMac models. Nothing else needs to be said. Move along.

@Davis: Words of wisdom. Mine are pure hindsight. ;-) Hopefully we will see updated iLife, iWork, iTunes and iPods in September/October.
