Apple Shares Slip on Death Grip Concerns, Recall Worries

Apple Shares Slip on Death Grip Concerns, Recall Worries

Apple’s stock is taking a pounding today after Consumer Reports‘ negative iPhone review, and our story that the company may have to issue a hardware recall.

Apple’s share price fell 3-4% in heavy trading today, reports VentureBeat:

Apple’s stock price fell 3 percent on Tuesday after Consumer Reports gave a negative review of the iPhone 4 because of its reception problems.

… In the wake of the Consumer Reports review, experts speculated that Apple would have to recall the units it has sold to fix the antenna problem, which may be more complicated than the software fix that Apple talked about on July 2.

I’m going on record as not having any issues, in fact it’s better than my previous 3Gs.

  • Hellsbells

@Shirli: Me too. So why would Apple need to recall a phone that only *some* people have issues with, and when they have also said they will issue anyone with a refund if wanted??

Because perception is everything! It only a takes a few disgruntled punters with very big mouths to start shouting at those in the media, the media likes nothing better than to bring down a celebrity or celebrated brand name.

My Panasonic surround sound system was recalled after 3 months with a full refund. Didn’t see that making the news.

I don’t have an iPhone, would be overkill for my simple needs but I do get the feeling that this is small minority of trouble makers, simply making mountains out of mole hills!

Not true. I haven’t made noise and I had my phone replaced twice, and still I’ve dropped 8 calls in two days. I had all previous versions of iPhones and I’ve never had an issue.

  • gdylan

@hellsbells “some” define that maybe “some” aren’t experiencing the antenna issue. Obviously its a big problem or it wouldn’t be the way it is.

  • MastaMizzy

If you have had that many dropped calls within the time frame you mentioned, not to be rude, but you’re a moron. I have had the phone since day 1 and have not had a single problem… I use my phone constantly thru out the day. Not one single dropped call, I even bought a $25 case to protect this awesome gadget that I’m using now, which anyone in their right mind should do. Even if there is a hardware flaw the IPhone 4 is still the best phone on the market, who else can say that? Android will never be as good… You rule Steve jobs haha

  • Phil

How can you call someone a moron, when the phone drops the calls, no fault of the user. I have had similar experiences with the phone. More dropped calls in the last 3 weeks than I have had in the last five years. I bought the bumper case when I purchased the phone, but you can’t charge or sync the phone with the case on, the opening is too small for the adapter, now that is just bad design. It’s now become a joke when I drop a call, I am asked when we reconnect, “did you get the new Iphone?” this is of course from people who don’t know what phone I use.
I am considering asking fro a refund, reactivating my old Iphone 3G and waiting until a working model comes out. Ironically I usually wait 6 months to buy a new model of anything just so the bugs are all worked out beforehand.

FFS Get a grip. Take it back if you want to, get a refund, buy a frufru, weep

  • gdylan

Explain to me how the iPhone is the best phone on the market I would really like to know how’s that true

  • gdylan

@mastamizzy I think its funny that u said Android will never be as good as apple…it took the iPhone how long to multitask, 3 yrs? Copy n paste 2 yrs? Set pics as wallpaper 3 yrs? But wait the iPhone has more apps, out of those 200,000 how many do u use. Personally I like quality or quantity. No removable memory or battery. Just got a 5 mp camera with flash. Video chat only over WiFi with other iPhone 4 owners sounds pretty clear who’s the winner between Android and apple….the iPhone was cool to own 2 yrs ago, now ppl just buy it to be a cool guy/gal, but in reality your just another dbag iPhone owner

  • Gabriel

Recall this piece of junk! NOW!

  • Ovos

@gdylan I think you’re a moron for trolling an Apple blog. Go troll somewhere else.

  • John

Android won’t solve the issue for me. Only one shitty android 1.2 version available here in NZ, and I’m not going to discard all the apps I’ve bought. I’ll still upgrade to ipphone 4. If it dropps calls I’ll drop down to a 3Gs instead.

  • jPad

Isn’t anyone the least bit curious as to why AT&T was so “gracious” in allowing individuals who are eligible for upgrade through 12/31/2010 to do so with the new iPhone 4? Also, why have they not said anything about the “true” reception issue being software issue? Once the software goes in, then the bars are going to reduce, meaning AT&T reception has been false ever since the first release of the iPhone. Really!?! I live in Oakland, CA, and there is only a couple of places my 3G doesn’t get good reception. I would like to upgrade to iPhone 4 after the software release and when Steve releases free covers for the iPhone 4.
