Apple released a very small update for third-generation Apple TV owners today. The update still shows up as iOS 8.4.1 but has a new build number, so it’s probably just a bug fix update. If you plan to stick by your third-gen Apple TV for a while, it’s probably worth downloading.
You can get the software update over the air by heading to Settings > General > Software Update. Since it’s so small it shouldn’t take long at all.
It’s nice to see that after releasing the new Apple TV equipped with an App Store and Siri, Apple is still supporting older Apple TV customers with software updates. Rightfully so, since you can actually still pick up a third-generation Apple TV for $69 if you’re not willing to spend $149 on the new one.
Meanwhile, Apple is also working on news software for fourth-generation Apple TV owners. tvOS 9.2 is currently in beta but will soon bring new features like voice dictation in search, app folders on the Home screen and iOS 9 style multitasking.
