First glimpse at iPhone 6s Plus display shows off Force Touch sensor

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s plus are coming on September 18th, according to German carriers.

The iPhone 6s Plus is less than two weeks away but, like last year, photos of the larger iPhone have been decidedly scarce compared to its 4.7-inch baby brother.

That appears to have changed thanks to two new photos leaked from supply chain sources in Taiwan that show off the iPhone 6s Plus display and internal Force Touch component.

Check them out below.

Beyond the Force Touch sensor visible in the second picture, there’s little to physically distinguish the iPhone 6s Plus from last year’s iPhone 6 Plus. Of course, given that incremental “s” iPhones tend to focus on internal rather than external tweaks, that’s of little surprise.

We have heard that the iPhone 6s Plus will be slightly thicker than its predecessor, be reinforced to avoid a Bendgate sequel, and will feature a 2,750-mAh battery (instead of last year’s 2,910-mAh iPhone 6 Plus), although we’ll have to wait until next week for proof of this.

Either way, having owned an iPhone 6 Plus this year, I think I’m going to opt for a regular 6s come launch day. I love the 6 Plus, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the 5.5-inch form factor is marginally too big for me.

Have you decided on a next-gen iPhone yet? From the 6s and 6s Plus to the rumored 4-inch iPhone 6c, you may well have a broader range of options than ever here in 2015. Leave your comments below.

    Still no new pricing.

Have the 6 Plus and will be upgrading to the 6s Plus. I love the extra screen space. My first though when I got it was “that is a huge phone!”, but as I used it I came to view it more as a pocket computer, so the size became an asset.

So the phone is thicker with a smaller battery?! Nice one.

    • c_hack says:

Depends on what rumor you want to believe. Prevalent rumors says the processors in the phone will be more energy efficient so they will not require as much battery capacity.

It’s like when Android phones have 4GB of ram and that’s seen as a “feature”… no it’s just a crappy unoptimized OS that needs 4GB of ram, it’s lazy. I mean it’s nice to have 4GB of ram if you DON’T need it, that is when people can take advantage of it.

    • Yeah, 0.2mm thicker. The A9 chip’s efficiency might even better the battery life.

The year 2015, but apple do not know that.
Force touch yes and OIS NO ?who needs force touch anyway? Why apple use 2010 tec on 2015 ? Because they know how many dumass will stands on the lines near apple stores. They know how many lifeless iships will pay for the same icrap again and again and again no metter how crap it is.

because metrics and components do not make a phone better…fact. I’ve got phones on both platforms. android much higher spec but less speed and efficiency compared to iOS

      • Rick says:

Android is ugly and sucks too. Looks cheap. I wouldn’t touch anything but an iPhone. Best smartphone experience ever.

      • Clark says:

Your judging an operating system without even using it? Wow…that’s not called being a fan of tech, but instead a sheep. And sheeps don’t care about anything other than one company and that company only. BTW, the multitasking on iOS 9 looks EXACTLY like the one on Lollipop, but since you can’t look at anything other than an “iPhone” you wouldn’t know that.

I’ve used Android, and I wasn’t very impressed. The battery on my Droid Incredible was incredibly bad. It took literally 8 hours to charge, then only lasted for about 4 hours. According to the battery settings, the Android OS was burning through the battery like there was no tomorrow. My current iPhone, on the other hand, has lasted as long as four days on a single charge. That factor, along with about 95% of hackers targeting Android OS phones, means I’ll never again use another Android phone.

Blue tooth 4.2, DDR4 RAM, Pressure sensitive high resolution display, new LTE bands…. where is that 2010 technology?

  5. John Wojtasiak says:

I’ll be upgrading from the 6 to the 6s Plus. The font is a little bigger on the plus and that is the main reason I’ll be upgrading.

  6. Delicious Points says:

I don’t understand, why is the battery smaller? Doesn’t that make the phone life even shorter? This gives me even more reason not to upgrade from my 6 plus and wait for the 7 now.. =(

    • c_hack says:

The A9 CPU and radio components are rumored to be more energy efficient. Therefore, you can get the same or better battery life with lower capacity.

      • Delicious Points says:

@c_hack, okay but if that’s true, wouldn’t you get even more battery life by using the same sized ones on the current models? I just dont get it..

      • 2oh1 says:

You don’t get it because you don’t know what Apple is using the extra space for. Obviously, if they’re reducing the battery size, they’re not doing that just for the heck of it. Tim Cook hasn’t gotten in touch with you personally to explain each of Apple’s design decisions? I’m surprised.

      • Delicious Points says:

Wait, he called right now, hold on..

  7. imtough says:

I’d imagine being marginally too big for your hands is a new feeling for you.

  8. Hopefully, as the new iPhones are going to be thicker, they can fit OIS into the regular 6s.

  9. Tejvir Singh says:

I think they should remove the home button completely from the iphone now.. I think its time.

    • Kostner Guyton says:

I like the home button, but i also liked the home button before touch ID, but now i prefer the aesthetics of the Touch ID button. Also Touch ID is too new and popular to retire yet. The retina display is already starting to show its age and with the addition of force touch, implementing touch ID into the display is too much.

      • Kostner Guyton says:

Expect retina display to reach 2K by the iPhone 7, Yes I know Samsung is there now, Apple will probably develop a chip to help drive the display like on the 5K iMac so battery life won’t be hindered and the iPhone can continue to get thinner.

  10. ultramet says:

These persistence incremental changes in the “s” models, just don’t justify spending more cash each year. Let me know when Apple starts to innovate again not just replicate.

  11. Taylor says:

I feel bad I am so late to the discussion, but to make a long story short: I converted from the Plus to the regular iPhone. I was in love with the idea of the 5.5 inch iPhone– the perfect blend of battery life, portability and screen I thought, but Steve Jobs was right– products must be focused.

The 5.5 inch iPhone is not as good as an iPad with Media as it is much too small to honestly be a tablet, although I admit it has tablet battery life and it seems huge when you think of it as a phone. It’s also a bad phone because you can not use it with one hand. With multi-touch gestures on the iPad, it is actually even a pleasure to browse with one hand holding the device and one hand using it. With the iPhone, it’s software is designed for one handed use and no one can use it with one hand.

So, about two weeks ago I bought the exact same iPhone as I had, but in the smaller 4.7″ size (128GB/Silver– bought it used and sold the other for a profit today). I haven’t even considered going back. Using the iPhone is such a pleasure again. Yes, the battery life suffers, but if you are more conscious and carry around a spare, you can charge it when you are doing something else. If you don’t pause from using your iPhone for a half hour throughout the day, you probably need to rethink your priorities.

These are just very rough first opinions, but honestly, this is the difference between Steve and Tim. Now, I don’t want to be “that guy” and bash on Tim because he was the perfect successor for Apple. I think he missed the philosophy about Apples focus with themselves. For example, Steve brought the Mac line down to four computers when he came [back] to Apple; Two Desktops, Two Laptops; Two machines for professionals, two machines for personal.

Now we have the iPad product line. It comes in three colors; three storage sizes; Three wireless hardware options; two screen sizes… It’s all too much.

I think Tim is doing a fantastic job by the way. He is continuing focusing on Apple philosophy and preparing the future of Apple, making crazy money for the shareholders, continuing to strive for social justice with equal rights, fair wages, economically recyclable products, and taxes. He is not appreciated enough by the shareholders or the board.
