The iPhone 6s is on the way, but that’s not going to stop forward-looking Apple watchers from speculating about future phones — like, say, 2018’s iPhone 8.
Alongside regularly-demanded features like wireless charging, designer Jermaine Smit has come up with an unusual dual-screen concept reminiscent of Russia’s YotaPhone — which would offer a 2K display on one side and a low-power screen on the other.
Check out a video below:
Not everyone enjoys iPhone concepts, and given the fact that they often make sizeable leaps in terms of what is possible with modern technology within the price brackets Apple has to operate, I don’t entire blame them.
But, like patents which may never turn out to be actual shippable products, it’s fun to be presented with mockups showing directions that Apple could conceivably go with in the future.
Who knows? Since it took Apple a few years to go with the larger-screen smartphone devices Samsung first offered with 2011’s Galaxy Note, there’s still time for the idea of a dual-screen smartphone to take the world by storm.
I think I’ll be sticking with my one-screened device for now, though.

id rather have an iPhone 4S then that!
I just can’t see a use case for this, unless you could unfold the screen into a dual display.
The inductive pad with the display looks cool, but I think the laser keyboard concept is kind of doa.
I was planning that but it didn’t seem something I could really manage with this shape. It is an idea for the future.
This is the difference between a CAD monkey and a designer.
and how do you mean that?
Why don’t you just tape Nokia 515 in the back of iPhone 6s?!
One more stupid posts, should have figured it from the tittle… Cult of Mac
Never judge a posts by its tittle.
Signature says “His tech writing has also appeared in Wired, Fast Company, Techmeme, and other publications” but how did you end up writing an article about a Concept video from YouTube which has a laser keyboard?
As I explained in the post, some people like to see unusual concepts for possible future iPhones. It’s fine if you don’t, but I thought it was a diverting enough idea that some readers would probably enjoy it on a Friday. I write around 30 Apple stories each week. Not every one needs to be hard news.
You guys do realize that this was a parody made my folks on androidmasterrace right?
Nooooope. Maybe Samsung would do something like this. Not Apple.
One of the least compelling concepts I’ve seen in a while, though the wireless charging dock with a separate LED screen was actually kindof interesting. I’d love to see more of that.
Sure all gimmicks…
Lol. I just saw Samsung Galaxy 8 because this phone contains mostly gimmicks like those in Galaxy lines.
