The second-generation FLIR One thermal camera is now available for iOS devices. Unlike the first-gen FLIR one which came as an iPhone 5/5s case, this standalone accessory attaches to your iPhone or iPad via a Lightning connector — and offers you 4x better resolution in the process.
The accessory can be used for a slew of incredibly useful applications such as seeking out studs behind your wall, looking for warm or cold air leaks, checking for termite infestation, or simply functioning as a nifty (albeit expensive) long-range thermometer.
The developers have also created an SDK for the FLIR One, which lets devs create apps for the accessory — opening up a broad range of exciting new possibilities.
The second-gen device is available worldwide starting today, carrying a price tag of $249.99. Its predecessor will set you back a new, cheaper price of $149.99. Although you’ll have to have an iPhone 5/5s and be happy taking the loss of resolution, of course.
