Using cases reportedly created for Apple’s rumored plus-size iPad Pro, Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy has put together a new video showing off just how massive the next-generation iPad might be.
At 12.9 inches, it’s definitely a significant step up from the current iPad Air 2 — but would it be enough to turn around Apple’s declining iPad business? Check out the video below.
Hilsenteger’s video isn’t the only bit of iPad Pro that has surfaced today. An industrial rendering shared by the French Apple-watching website nowhereelse.fr shows off a December 2014 image of a 12.9-inch iPad which, frankly, looks like the kind of tablet Andre the Giant would use.

If accurate, the rendering supports previous rumors about the iPad Pro, such as the fact that it features four speakers at the top and bottom of the device, while the power button, headphone jack, etc. have not have moved from their present position.
Previous rumors have suggested that Apple’s plus-sized tablet will come equipped with Oxide LCD display technology, while Apple is also said to be considering adding USB 3.0 ports, and even a possible stylus to the device.
Of course, just because we’re now seeing third-party cases for the iPad Pro doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Eager to hit the ground running with their accessories, third-party case makers will often base their cases on the same speculation that everyone else hears — which can often be why they appear to confirm existing rumors.
With that said, they have also been a valuable source of accurate information in the past — usually when manufacturers have an inside track on Apple’s supply chain — and this could turn out to be the case here.
Certainly, if Apple does go the route of creating a larger pro-oriented iPad to further differentiate itself from the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, it would be a device I’d personally be very interested in. If enough people think that way, it could be just the thing Apple’s looking for to reverse flagging tablet sales!

I’m all for an iPad Pro … if it can run OS X. I’d purchase at least one the second It would become available
If it is just a larger form factor running iOS, not so much … I fail to see what additional benefits would make it a “pro” device or worthy of a higher price tag. A bigger screen, or even a USB port wouldn’t add much real world capabilities that are already offered by a MBA or new MB.
I’m not sure how well your premise resides in reality.
Just look at the new 12 inch Macbook … the hardware form factor is already capable of fitting into a 12 inch tablet … add a touch screen and you are good to go. Look at the teardown videos from iFixit.
Just because you don’t agree does not equate that running OS X on a tablet is impossible or even nonsensical … or how do you explain the surface pro? Sure it’s not pure desktop option … but that’s where we are headed … whether you accept it or not.
What’s ludicrous is you think you are the definitive source on this matter. You are not.
The delusion here is all yours my friend. You are claiming OS X on a tablet as impossible … it is not.
You could educate yourself on the matter further by just visiting youtube and searching for Mac OS X touch screen. Plenty of examples there going back some time. The tech is already here … just needs a bit more refinement in some cases. I’m not going to do all the research for you. Show a little initiative of your own please.
I grow so weary when self-appointed anonymous experts on the internet behave in such manners. You are but one more faceless, nameless voice on the internet behaving like a troll.
If they keep, the aspect ratio around 4:3, this is going to be a lifesaver for us musicians who REALLY want to go digital for our sheet music but find the current iPad just too small to read on a music stand. Hurry up, Apple. I am sick of the freaking watch and want somethig I can use.
We have a closet full of music scanned and ready but the current iPad is too small to use on a gig. A Cellest is a couple of feet away minimum and the notes are just too small for practical use. The iPad Pro would be perfect. We would buy 5 of them day one.
It’s great to see that people already have uses for such a large iPad. The only thing I can think of is how hideous the thing looks and wonder what they want me to do on it. The current iPad seems large enough to me and of you really want to get productive you still need full fledged OS X software. The iOS versions still seem to be hampered if you compare them to the real thing. I bet Apple acknowledges this but that makes me wonder how they will promote these machines. I have a feeling that just adding some size to the screen is not Apple’s greater plan to boost iPad sales. I hope they’re going to surprise us with some nifty tricks that really makes this a machine you would want to carry around.
First comment – When the original iPad came out my first reaction was that I would wait for a 12″. The reason is that the current size (which I have at work) is too small for a decent one-on-one presentation without a projector.
Second comment – I wish it were possible for all the glory addicts like our buddy Luke and his “legendary” friend would find something else to do. I am from the generation that remembers what a surprise is. Such as the out-of-the blue unveilings of the iPod, the iPhone (what a killer unveiling!) and the iPad. There weren’t a bunch of guys running round spoiling the fun. People who are into this are like those who secretly unwrap their Christmas presents the instant they appear under the tree.
Finally the right size – OS X plizzz !! It will be my last device :)
I’m really excited for an iPad Pro… can’t wait to take it to concerts and capturing peformances!
