J.J. Abrams rocks an Apple Watch at Star Wars Celebration

Being pals with Jony Ive definitely has its benefits. Just ask J.J. Abrams, the director of the upcoming Star Wars movie.

At a panel for The Force Awakens during the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, Abrams showed up wearing an Apple Watch. It looks like a stainless steel model with a black Classic Buckle band.

Plenty of celebrities and fashion designers already have the Apple Watch, so it should come as no surprise that Abrams is wearing one. The A-list director is friends with Ive, who gave Abrams some design help on how to make the new lightsabers in Star Wars more “spitty.”

The panel with Abrams is still streaming below, and a new Force Awakens trailer is expected to hit the web today.

I guess Apple didn’t think J.J. was cool enough for the Edition.

Here’s a theory: maybe JJ doesn’t like gold watches/jewelry. Being a millionaire doesn’t immediately equate to buying gold watches, flatware and furniture.

But… but… but I thought no one would be wearing AppleWatches when they can save money and own an Android Wear smartwatch.

That is true, you can save money and have a better user experience by owning an Android Wear Watch, but we won’t really see how that plays out until the Android Wear App makes it to iOS. The best thing to happen to Android Wear is all of Apple’s marketing will raise awareness of smart watches in general.
I don’t think smart watches are for everyone, but the people who would appreciate it will most likely choose Android over the iWatch if given the choice.

IDK. This is the same argument given for every one of Apples products verses Androids, and yet Apple may have already sold over 2.3 million watches. I think this watch kills most Android ware watches, because of its beauty, its UI, and because it doesn’t look like another classical watch. Which was a very smart move that’s going to heart Android Watches in the long run. It’s already hard to distinguish an Android Wear Watch, from a classical watch in the street, but Apples watch, you can notice from a mile away. Which will create tons more mind share.

Then once again, just like with the iPhone, Apple has an insane amount of developer devotion, and big name support. The watch isn’t even out yet, and there getting insane amounts of support from the biggest names in Apps. Many companies are even installing ibecons that will talk to the watch in stores. Android would kill for this type of support. Even as we speak, it seems like the Apple Watch is already casting a huge shadow over Android Ware watches.
