Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and to mark the occasion Apple has changed the image on its homepage to one commemorating the beloved civil rights activist and pastor.

The black-and-white image is accompanied by a line reading, “Today we reflect on the life and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the work that continues in service of the broader concerns of humanity.”

Tim Cook also tweeted a message honoring King’s life and legacy. The Apple CEO has often spoken about the impact King had on his life. While accepting a lifetime achievement award from his alma mater Auburn University in 2013, Cook talked about how King was responsible for shaping his passionate views regarding human right and equality.

Although Apple hasn’t given its employees the day off, it has set up a gift-matching program, donating an extra $50 for every voluntary hour worked by employees.

Happy MLK Day, everyone!

I for one am proud of Apple’s newfound moral center. There was no reason under Jobs that they couldn’t make great products as well as treat its employees (in Cupertino AND Shenzhen) and the earth well. Tim Cook is steadily making Apple better in the unseen ways as well.
