Apple TV received a huge update this morning with four new channels getting added to the lineup, plus a completely redesigned YouTube channel that makes it easier to find your favorite viral videos.

MMA-addicts will be happy to hear that a dedicated UFC channel was added this morning, along with Fusion, Dailymotion, and Conde Nast’s new offering The Scene, giving users more free video content options than ever.

To highlight the new channels, Apple added a “New” tag in the upper right corner. Along with a redesigned interface, the YouTube update also introduces video ads. Three of the four new channels are also ad-based, but if you want to get in on the all the fighting action the UFC can offer, it’ll cost you $99.99 per year for a UFC Fight Pass.

Fusion, the news network aimed at millennials, is putting its content from its cable TV channel on Apple TV for free. Viewers can watch old clips of shows like Fusion Live, No, You Shut Up, Midterm Mayhem, Drug Wars, and more.

The Scene channel allows viewers to browse through the Conde Nast empire’s vast catalogue of original videos from magazines such as Variety, Vogue, GQ, The New Yorker, and Wired. Dailymotion is a user-uploaded video site similar to YouTube. You can catch clips from popular new sites and channels, or browse through the latest trending videos.

The automatic update is rolling out to users this morning, but if you’re not seeing the channels yet, a quick reboot should bring them up.

Cannot wait for them to revamp everything. It would also be nice to sign on once with my cable provider so I do not have to do it on each channel. Just saying.

it would be nice to have folders like iOS There’s too much icons clutter on the screen.

Apple should have a Vice President for Users. The job would require using their products, including Apple TV, all day. He/she would have to sign in on sites where he had already signed in dozens of times. He would sit for long periods watching the spinning wheel. He would reboot numerous times. He would also have to use the products of others like Roku. Their remote is best. When he uses Apple’s remote app he would find that he would have sinc problems and have to reach for his little Apple remote stick to save time. He would be told that he has to turn on home sharing when he already turned it on.
Don’t get me wrong. I like Apple, but things could be much better. Steve Jobs would have someone’s head if he had these problems.

Melcj90–go to your settings tab. From there you’re able to ‘hide’ the channels that are ‘cluttering’ your display. I think the Apple TV coming down the pipe will be very compelling. With the power they’ve managed to bolster with the A8, the graphics performance of the SoC and the NAND/storage speeds…and wireless AC to integrate with their new router and/or time capsule for local storage…it could be TiVo, your typical cable box numerized with its ‘code’ embedded through Apple to pick, choose, and buy/watch what you want, when you want and on the channels you’re used to from years of living In the market. They won’t want to give up their monopolies.
After all, most TV providers are also ISP hander-outers;). They’re controlling the faucet regardless so it’s not going to ‘hurt’ them per se. Most over the age of 50/55+ won’t bother. Younger generations already have ‘cut the cord’ and found significantly better ‘deals’ to use Photon or Skyfire fo (think &May-The-Weather– be nice tomorrow;))
Those of us that don’t ‘fit’ (40 something’s) are being taught all the cool tricks by our teenagers growing up ‘plugged in’;)
It’s sad they continue to monopolize, capitalize and continuously avoid ANY sort of innovation in GUI or speeds, storage for Your recorded goodies, etc. They’ll be eaten up by Apple TV, Chromecast or Kindle’s new offering.
