Tim Cook called the iPhone 6 the fastest-selling smartphone in history during yesterday’s Apple event. It’s set a new high-water mark for the most first-month orders ever, and if you need any more evidence, just look at this line outside the Fifth Avenue Apple Store in New York City today.
It’s been a month since the iPhone 6 launched and the line is still down the street. Unlike a month ago, Asian resellers can’t be blamed for the length, as China just got its fingers all over the bigger-than-big displays this morning.
Apple didn’t announce how many iPhones it sold in the first month – although we might find out during Monday’s earnings call – but with 32 countries accepting orders in the first few weeks, and another 36 getting it this month, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are poised to be Apple’s biggest cash machines ever.

it took me over one month to get it ( diff country ) so yeh
As far as I can tell there isn’t an iPhone 6 at any Apple Store in all of Texas and hasn’t been for a week or so. Why roll it out worldwide when Apple can’t meet demand in the US?
Especially since you have to buy it at the store in order to trade-in your old phone. Not cool.
The US are not more important market than the rest of the world.
The US is Apple’s #1 market. They should just make enough for everyone. I’m still surprised they didn’t expect sales to be off the chart.
They did expect higher sales, which is why they put in a larger order for the announcement and months following. But it’s hard to know exactly which model, there are a lot to choose from.
They have three color options, 3 memory options and then lots of carrier options. Unfortunately, one phone doesn’t fit all.
We’re almost there! I’d say we’re probably 2 generations from an iPhone with antennas that support all carriers in one device.
Because those shortages are false. They always have been. Tell the people that want an iPhone that they can’t have it due to short supply and that people will be standing outside of the stores for days just to one. Free publicity.
How can anyone predict future demand? They gave their mfg suppliers orders for about 2x more than last year’s 5S’s, so the demand was more than they expected. It’s simple. You do what you THINK you need and hope that it’s enough and in this case, it isn’t.
Umm.. I got one in two days+shipping time by ordering from Apple’s web store. Why in the world would you wait in lines like this?
If you’re trading in your phone you can only do it at the store. Otherwise it’s pay the upfront, wait for the 6, pack up your 4 or 5 and send it in, wait for the $$. Site shows a 7-10 day delivery now.
plus space gray 64gb is 4 to 3 weeks delivery .
Wow.
Apple is so totally doomed. :)
I’m really not surprised. I hung on to my 4S for 3 years and was chomping at the bit to get a new iPhone. And the iPhone 6 is sweet!
Here’s what the employees inside the store see
If their food is coming from these then they will still respect I guess
You do realize that there are far more Android smartphones on this planet than iPhones. Now talk about poor sheep getting fleeced. Once Google unleashes all those crappy $100 Android One smartphones on the struggling BRIC nation consumers and all hell is about to break loose when the sheep go running to grab that crap.
I’ll admit that photo made me laugh hard. Humans aren’t that much different from dumb animals caught up in herd mentality. But we’ve got supposedly good reasons to explain why we’re doing those things and the sheep don’t.
You have to laugh at the Apple haters. Only they can read a story where Apple is selling a HUGE amount of phones, much more than the huge increases they had planned for, and still spin an angle that has Apple going down in flames. Just like they’ve been saying for 25 plus years.
And the sheep joke is getting pretty lame, why don’t they think up some new, fresh material?
…
Why are those people waiting for iPhones when you can go to any carrier or retail store and get a Samsung Galaxy 5 for half price? Heck, the shelves are filled with them and no waiting. D’oh!
I think you answered your own question! Time to pull out the old sheep joke. . .
That’s nuts. I ordred my 6 Plus on pre-order night got it on launch day. It had a problem with the home button and walked into a store to get it replaced in about 2 minutes. Crazy how certain populated areas have such a huge demand still.
