Apple’s all about pushing into developing markets, and with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus now available for preorder in China, the next question is when customers in India can expect to get their hands on the next gen handsets.
According to Apple, the answer to that question is October 17, when the iPhone 6 family devices will go on sale. Preorders, meanwhile, start tomorrow on October 7.
Prices haven’t yet been officially announced, but authorised Apple dealers in the country are sending out price lists to customers, as follows:
iPhone 6
- 16 GB – Rs. 53,500 ($868)
- 64 GB – Rs. 62,500 ($1014)
- 128 GB – Rs. 71,500 ($1160)
iPhone 6 Plus
- 16 GB – Rs. 62,500 ($1014)
- 64 GB – Rs. 71,500 ($1160)
- 128 GB – Rs. 80,500 ($1305)
There are also likely to be plenty of exchange offers and discounts for the festive season, although these are unlikely to be revealed until closer to the actual launch.
With 1.2 billion citizens, India represents a fast-growing smartphone market — with 80 million handsets expected to sell this year.
Currently Apple is the sixth largest smartphone maker in the market. Recently the company passed a major iPhone milestone in India — having sold an estimated 1.02 million devices between October 2013 and August 2014. It is expected that a total of 1.1 million iPhones will sell in India by the time the fiscal year ends on September 30.
