Apple’s Jony Ive and Marc Newson rubbed elbows with the fashion industry elite today at Colette, a high-end boutique in Paris. Famous fashion designers and members of the press flocked to Colette for a one-day event to see the Apple Watch in person.

This is the first time Apple has shown its upcoming Watch publicly since its media event in Cupertino earlier this month. The decision to partner with an upscale boutique during Paris Fashion Week shows that Apple is serious about wooing the fashion industry with its new product category.

Fashion journalists gathered at Colette alongside the likes of head Chanel and Fendi designer Karl Lagerfeld. Jony Ive and Apple’s newly hired Marc Newson mingled with the crowd, helping people try on Apple Watch demo units.

Most attendees were only able to see the Apple Watch behind glass, but a select few were given permission to try the product on. All units were running a demo video loop like they were at Apple’s last media event.

Colette’s 8,000 square-foot concept store in Paris could end up being the kind of place Apple choose to let the Watch be available for sale, although no more details about pricing or availability have been shared. Reports have said Apple hoped to have the Watch available this year, but production complications have pushed things back. Now the company will be “lucky” to ship by Valentines Day.
