Rovio’s original Angry Birds game for iOS has today been updated with 15 new Bad Piggies levels, and is now available for free for the first time ever on both iPhone and iPad. The incredibly popular title was first introduced to the iPhone back in December 2009, and it’s been priced at $0.99 ever since.

But if you’re not one of the many millions who have already downloaded it, now is the perfect time to grab it.

It’s unclear why Angry Birds has been reduced, or how long the reduction will last. It was first spotted by Appsfire, the app recommendation engine, which announced the news on Twitter. Appsfire suggests the game could be Apple’s next Free App of the Week, but the Cupertino company hasn’t yet updated iTunes to reflect that.

Rovio doesn’t appear to have announced the reduction yet, either; there’s no news on its blog or on its social networking feeds. We’re pretty confident it’s not a mistake, though, so we’re expecting to hear something soon.

Angry Birds is already free on Android, but Rovio uses in-app advertisements to monetize it. You don’t have to suffer those on iOS, fortunately.

In addition to the reduction, Angry Birds has also been updated to add 15 new levels in the Bad Piggies episode. You’ll find the release by hitting the App Store link below.
