As of this point, the current version of iWork for Mac has absolutely no iCloud functionality, while the iOS version fully supports it. This tends to be frustrating when moving files around, as it makes what should be a straightforward process into a disaster. In this video, I’ll show you how you can upload your documents directly to iCloud, to make file sharing much easier.

Thank you so much for this great shortcut to upload documents in Pages right to iCloud. No more having to go to iCloud.com!
The other way is to go to icloud.com and upload via the iWork area. It’s a pain also only because I have to open a browser and upload the file to icloud via the website. Then I have to open the file up on my ios device to make sure it registered.
Apple really needs to come up with an interface like iDisk or Dropbox for icloud!
Thanks, Love these videos you make. Just a comment on this one, it seems easier to just go to iCloud.com and drag the file into iWork there to get it on your mobile device.
Thanks for the ‘How to …’ but you didn’t mention the option of using iWork on iCloud accessed through a browser. On that route documents can be downloaded and opened in Pages and Pages documents can be uploaded to iCloud. This route is distinct to using iWork.com which is still in beta and somewhat unreliable.
Even as an Mac, iPad, iPhone user I find this issue to be a pain but wonder if they don’t allow this to happen as your iCloud storage might be dried up quickly. To me the best option they could add to pages on the Mac is in the save option have Save > Save To iCloud, that way you could just save the documents you need to work on away from your Mac
Very difficult. Is easier to go into http://www.icloud.com -> iWork -> Drag a and drop your iWork files.
Convenient that they don’t mention gotchas like this in their commercials. “It just works.” Really? So the above rigamarole — which remains entirely within the Mac ecosystem of OSes and devices — is “working as intended”? I’d expect better functionality here. Much better.
I’d suggest using Dropbox, but if the iOS version of Pages fiddles with the file type… you’d still have to convert it back when you returned to your Mac. What a hassle!
What am I supposed to use the gratis 25Gb for? How does one use that? Come June I’ll not pay any more and just use the free space for what little use it is. People are distraught at the loss of iDisk, iWeb hosting, and in particular Gallery. iCloud is aimed at the iOS market and Mac users have not been given much thought. I’ll give the workaround a try and thanks for the tip.
I want something like dropbox for my iCloud!
I have the latest and most updated version of OSX Lion and am using a current model 17″ Macbook Pro. I don’t seem to have the library folder in the location you have. I even searched for it in spotlight and the only library I have is in relation to X-code. I searched for the mobile documents and don’t seem to have that either. I do have pages installed and use the mobile app on my iPhone. Weird, hu?
Strange that this video doesn’t mention the easy way to get documents back from iOS to Mac – just go to iCloud.com and you can download it back to your machine as, in the example above, a Pages, Word, or PDF document. (That “remove the -tef” bit is a cute hack but totally unworkable in real life – which you pointed out.) It isn’t perfect, but it’s loads better than anything else if you just HAVE to get your documents back from iOS. BTW, the Mobile Documents folder updating if you’re just sharing between multiple Macs is excellent. I do that much more than pushing iWork documents back and forth to iOS.
Good tip. Well explained.
Dropbox is better.
You seem to have missed the obvious route using iCloud in a browser. Login to iCloud, select iWork, choose your document and download. To save a document to iCloud click on the cog icon (top right) and choose upload. Upload your document to iWork and it’s visible on your iOS device.
(NB This is not the same as iWork.com which is still in beta and somewhat unreliable.)
Early reports of the latest 10.7.3 update ends this action.
Dropbox does not support webDAV, there is no easy way to sync iOS pages/keynote/numbers with Dropbox.
sad thing is this will be remedied once apple makes an update to pages…now how long til that happens is yet to be seen :/
your library folder is most likely hidden. In that case, use Finder’s go menu to get to your library folder.
I went to the Library folder bur I couldn’t find the Mobile folder.
1) Click anywhere on your home screen (to Open up FINDER)
2) Click on the following keys: COMMAND+SHIFT+G
3) Type in: /Library
Thank you!
Much appreciated
