While most of the mystery of Apple’s North Carolina data super center comes from the fact that we’re still not really sure what Cupertino will be using it for, let’s not underestimate another contributing factor to the intrigue: the fact that Apple’s Maiden, North Carolina data center appears as a big, gaping hole in the Earth under Google Maps. But no longer!

While Apple had previously asked Google to keep an aerial view of their data center obscured under Google Maps, with yesterday’s announcement of WWDC, Apple also unofficially “announced” the data center by asking Google to unobscure the facility.

Not that it’s anything particularly interesting to look at: a big white building with a road snaking towards it. But if the timing of the announcement is anything to go by, Apple has just confirmed that within that data center, iClouds are made.
