Smule’s MadPad is a crazy finger-tapping box of fun for your iThing, guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Once your kids get their hands on it, it will soon drive you insane, but never mind: it’s worth it.

Put simply, MadPad is an instant soundboard machine. A video sampler. A crazy music doohickey. It’s fun. It’s impossible to start playing around with it and not smile.

Here’s the official promo vid:

MadPad shows you sets of sounds as a grid of 12 rectangles. Tap one, and it plays the sound and the video that comes with it. You can make your own sound sets, using an ingenious and very well designed edit mode (just tap an empty box, record, and move on).

But wait: there’s much, much more to MadPad than that.

For one thing, you can record your madpaddings and export them straight to YouTube. Like this:

Or like this:

And for another, there’s a whole community of users and players built right into MadPad. You can share your soundboards with everyone. You can download soundboards made by other people. Some of them will be nuts, some of them will be beautiful, some of them (I’ll be willing to bet) will be fart sounds.

But so what? For just one dollar (or three for the iPad version), you get a great deal of entertainment from this little app, fart sounds optional.
