Nokia is again back in court, this time claiming Apple’s iPad and iPhone infringe five patents. The venue — a federal court in Wisconsin — has some people scratching their heads.

In its latest legal jab at the Cupertino, Calif. consumer electronics giant, Nokia alleges the patents involve “enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space, allowing smaller and more contact devices.”

Nokia said this morning it has developed “many key technologies in mobile devices” and this latest lawsuit against Apple is designed to “protect the results of our pioneering development and to put an end to continued unlawful use of Nokia’s innovation.”

In March, a court ruled patent infringement lawsuits by Nokia and Apple against each other filed in Maryland would have to wait until the outcome of complaints the two companies also filed before the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington, DC. The ITC could hand down a ruling in 2012.
