Twitter announced Tuesday it has started testing a new way threaded conversation layout meant to make it easier for its users to see who is communicating to whom.
The new layout – being tested on Twitter’s iOS app and via the web – is meant to help users keep better track of long threads and people responding to sub-tweets coming off an original thread.
The platform has been experimenting with a new layout for the past year and on its prototype app twttr, according to TechCrunch.

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong posted a demo on her account in early April. Wong’s demo shows that clicking on a tweet in the threaded layout expands it and gives you an easy way to post a response to it.

Twitter has been testing various types of layouts over the past year in an effort to freshen its platform and expand its use. In April, it added instant timeline streaming to its official Twitter client for Mac.
