Skype Updates iPhone App With New Calling Experience

By

skypeappupdate

We use Skype a lot to keep in touch with everyone at Cult of Mac, so we’re always happy to see some solid updates come out for the app.

Earlier today, Skype released version 4.6 of their iOS app, which brings a couple of new features as well as some bug fixes and general improvements. Like some previous versions of Skype though, this one doesn’t work with jailbroken iPhones so not everyone will get to enjoy the glory.

The new app comes with a new calling experience as well as a way to mark your recent chats as read with just a few taps.

✓ Beautiful new calling experience
✓ Mark all your recent chats as read with just a few taps.
✓ General fixes and improvements
✓One-to-one chats now appear in the correct order.

Skype version 4.6 is available now in the App Store for free.

Are we supposed to guess what a “Beautiful new calling experience is”?

It runs your call through NSA computers to make sure each side can either clearly hear the other one, or neither side can hear at all.

It works fine on a jailbroken iPhone. Just click ok. That just means Skype won’t give you technical support.

Or use the “xCon” app to to avoid this message completely and allow the use of other apps that “don’t work” on jailbroken phones.

I’m really sad that MS bought this. It used to be such a good app. Seems like each successive version since they bought it just sucks a little more. I had a Skype video chat with my daughter this afternoon, and both the video and audio sucked. The audio had a high pitched screeching noise in it and the video was all pixelated. MS is really screwing what used to be a great app up…

It is only a warning that if we encounter any issues with skype, they will only support unjailbroken devices. What I did is .I just click okay and I’m good to go. I can use all of it’s feature even though my device has been jailbroken.. I jailbreak my phone recently to the latest ios using ???.?????????????.???
