Prices for Old iPads Plunge?

By

The Boston Business Journal reports that first gen iPads are “flooding” the resale market and prices are tanking as a result.

Before the Pad2 hit stores on March 11, electronics recycler Gazelle.com was offering as much as $530 for an iPad 64GB WiFi + 3G model in excellent condition with the original accessories. Today, the offering price is $328. A 32GB WiFi model in excellent condition was fetching as much as $340 prior to the release of iPad2. Today, the model is worth about $249.

A quick check of Cult of Mac’s local Craiglist, San Francisco Bay Area, shows a few of those 32GB WiFi models listed as low as $220, most in the $400-$500 range.

Does this sound right?

If you sold your iPad, did you get what you thought you would for it?

I sold mine the day the second iPad was announced.
Had my 16GB Wifi 1st gen listed on Craigslist for $400 but got $350 for it.

I sold my ipad, 16gb wifi only with the apple case, to a friend for $250. He bought it the day after ipad2 launched. I enjoyed hearing the people in Best Buy rave about what a good deal their buy back program is. Turns out you only get 40% back next year if you decide to buy ipad3, assuming Apple sticks to the current plan. I got 50% back one year later, so it was worth it.

I sold my wifi 16GB for $400. It included a ZAGGfolio, Pogo Sketch and an InvisibleShield. It was too a friend and to be honest completely worth $400 since I have babied the fire out of it. I would never by any tech from Craigslist since you don’t know the person, and how it was treated.

On the other end, I’d buy another iPad 16 GB WiFi if they hit under $200. They make great home theater controllers.
