The iPad 2 is here. It costs the same, but the latest version is thinner, comes in black or white and now rocks FaceTime, rear and front facing webcams plus a gyroscope for your gaming pleasure.

The hotter sibling of the original iPad starts shipping March 11th.

  1. Nourez Rawji says:

Not enough incentive for me to upgrade my iPad 1. FaceTime is great and all, but I’m not playing games or anything that’ll require that extra processing power. I’ll wait it out for iPad 3.

  2. Gustavo Santana says:

i wont use the camera since i have other devices that do the job better, don’t really need the extra power from A5 right now, but i do want retina display. Guess i’ll wait for iPad 3

  3. FrankyFox says:

I don’t think you can pre-order today. that link s sadly misleading

  4. Forest Walker says:

Yeah, they finally got the store page up but no option to pre-order… They might make us wait until Mar 11 – which sucks for folks in states with no Apple stores…

  5. Josh says:

The new iPad looks AWESOME! However, not enough for me to get out of my first gen iPad. I’m still loving it and with a jailbreak, I have the ability to output to a screen anyway! I really don’t need the extra processing power in a tablet and it looks like many features are coming in iOS 4.3. I’ll be waiting for iPad 3.

  6. Guest says:

I’ll wait for #3. I want a better display before I plunk down 5 Benjamins.

  7. Jdsonice says:

I cannot wait to get my hands on this puppy. I am keeping my iPad 1 too.

  8. JayMysteri0 says:

Like a few other iPad 1 owners, this doesn’t seem like a big enough step up. I’m really hoping for the improved display. What we got here was the laundry list of things that iPad 1 haters said they needed to be on the iPad for them to buy it. Front facing cameras, back facing cameras, are you really going out to shoot vid with an iPad? Has Face time been that big of a game changer? A faster processor is nice, but I haven’t been complaining about the speed of my iPad so far, and the weight has never been an issue. So I see this as the iPad to shut up all the whiners about what wasn’t in the first one, and make them come up with new complaints.

IPad 3 will be the one to upgrade ( I hope )) for, keeping the unspoken axiom that one gets every other gen of Apple products.

  9. Zad says:

I know the upgrades are really big, but I held off from getting #1 because I wanted a camera. So yeah, I’m getting this one..

  10. Zad says:

Hmm, I meant aren’t. Dang my poor typing.

  11. CharliK says:

I would have like a little antiglare on that screen and some backlighting for working outside. But I am impressed. I’ll probably pick up another 16 wifi and wait for v3 before going to the max

  12. Dominic Black says:

I’ve been looking for something that will import video from USB camera. What are you using?

  13. Michael says:

Absolutely NOT! This is a Joke update – honestly, how dare they come up with such a minimal advance and in a few months we get #3…Wheres my XOOM?

  14. Jim says:

Personally, I think these upgrades weren’t for myself, or other purchaser of the original iPad, but to try to stifle the competition’s advertisements on what it could offer that the iPad doesn’t. As others have said, it’s a little pricey to try to upgrade it on just what they have offered here. I’m hoping for more fantastic upgrades with version 3. I like iMove on there but would like to download pics and videso to the ipad.

  15. Allan Cook says:

I had the first-generation iPad and sold it. Cool and all, but really limited. I needed something that performed more like a real computer. So I bought an ultimate MacBook Air. Maybe someday I’ll buy an iPad for reading and surfing the web, but not right now.

  16. Guest says:

I didn’t buy an original iPad and I probably won’t buy this one. Not sure why, probably because I don’t have a need for one, and I don’t have the cash.

do you keep all your old tech? Awesome idea.

  19. JDWages says:

I really wanted to buy the iPad 2. I waited patiently throughout 2010 in hopes of something better. And while the iPad 2 is fabulously better in many respects, it still doesn’t satisfy my photographic needs completely. Specifically, I wanted an SD card slot. Even Steve Jobs himself touted the iPad 2 as being friendly toward the world of photography. But it’s not truly friendly when you are forced to carry around a dongle to get your photos onto the iPad. And the fact remains that relative few cameras have the wireless capability necessary to move photos to the iPad without SD card transfer.

But yet another reason I now await the iPad 3 is the Retina Display rumor. Yes, we all know it’s coming, and when it does it will be yet another game changer. Again, I am thinking about photography here. The more pixels I can see, the better I can determine if my shot was perfect, without having to pinch and zoom in to various parts of the photo. Such a display would be simply outstanding. But since Steve Jobs said 2011 would be the “Year of the iPad 2”, it would appear that such a major change will not occur until 2012; hence I have yet another long wait.

  20. Danny Uff says:

I will be getting the iPad 2 for the front camera. Been wanting to video chat on it for a while now.

  21. Mark Pringle says:

Well, it’s not as big of an upgrade as I anticipated, but since I don’t have the first gen iPad or an iPhone, I guess I’ll buy this one.
