A talented Mexico City medical student studies hard by day and saves lives by night, hurtling around the sprawling metropolis in her family’s private ambulance. But it looks like something’s got to give under the strain of it all in the trailer Apple TV+ dropped Tuesday for the upcoming Spanish-language drama series Midnight Family.
Sure, you might need subtitles, but it looks like a rewarding ride. The 10-episode series, based on a documentary, debuts on Apple TV+ September 25.
Midnight Family trailer depicts family of Mexico City paramedics struggling to serve and survive
Inspired by award-winning documentary Familia de Medianoche, the new Apple TV+ drama series Midnight Family comes from showrunner and director Natalia Beristáin. Julio Rojas and Gibrán Portela created it for TV. It tells the story of a family of paramedics running a private ambulance service in Mexico’s sprawling capital. It houses 10 million residents, but only about 100 government-run ambulances deal with their medical emergencies. So private outfits try to pick up the slack.
Here’s the streamer’s description of Midnight Family’s all-Hispanic cast and the dramatic story they inhabit:
Midnight Family features an entirely Hispanic cast and crew led by Ariel Award winner Joaquín Cosío (Narcos: Mexico), Renata Vaca (Dale Gas) and Diego Calva (Babylon), and introduces Sergio Bautista, with the special participation of Goya Award winner Óscar Jaenada (Hernán) José María de Tavira (El Candidato), Itzan Escamilla (Élite), Mariana Gómez (The Queen of Flow), Dolores Heredia (Capadocia) and special guest, Academy Award nominee Yalitza Aparicio (Roma).
Inspired by the award-winning documentary of the same name, Midnight Family follows Marigaby Tamayo (Vaca), an ambitious and gifted medical student by day, who spends her nights saving lives throughout a sprawling, contrasted and fascinating Mexico City aboard her family’s privately owned ambulance. Along with her father Ramón (Cosío), and her siblings Marcus (Calva) and Julito (Bautista), Marigaby serves a population of millions by tackling extreme medical emergencies to make a living.
