What’s better than an iPhone 4S? How about an iPhone 4S with a see-through back! The folks at iFixit have announced their transparent rear glass panel mod for Apple’s latest smartphone, and if you buy now you get a nifty care package to keep your iPhone clean and free of damage.

For $29.95, you can’t beat this deal. The mod is also available for the GSM iPhone 4.

The package includes:

  • iPhone 4S Transparent Rear Glass Panel – make your phone awesome
  • Liberation Kit – the tools you need to get rid of those pesky pentalobe screws
  • Thirsty Bag – the best way to dry your phone after an unexpected swim
  • Screen protector – keep your screen pristine and beautiful

Still need convincing? How about the fact that installing the rear panel only takes about two seconds. iFixit has made it super easy: simply remove two screws (you’ll have a new Liberation Kit to help you with that), slide the back panel off, and slide on the new one. Presto chango! If you still feel uneasy, then iFixit has a thorough video tutorial to walk you though the process.

You can grab this whole package from iFixit for $29.95 while supplies last. Your purchase comes with a 6 month warranty. Once the introductory packages are gone, the rear panel will continue to be sold for $29.95.

WOW! 2 seconds to turn your iphone into something that someone who lives in a trailer dug out of their trash!  AND YOU GET TO PAY $30 BUCKS FOR IT, EVEN BETTER!

  2. Jeff says:

photos will likely be affected since the light from the LED flash will be reflecting off a clear backing vs. the OEM black or white. I’ve read elsewhere that the iOS software is tuned to compensate for white.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it is wrong, but don’t be a douche. There is definitely a market that this appeals to.

I get all my backplates from cnn.cn.  They’ve always had top notch service.  Jeff is right about the flash though.  In low light situations, the flash does bleed through.  I have an aluminum backplate on mine (from cnn.cn) now and don’t have the bleeding problem.  The upside to the website I mentioned is that you can still get the Apple marking on it as well.
