Mac shipments increased 21.4% in the second quarter of 2025, according to a market research firm. Apple has shown strong growth in shipments every quarter since the launch of multiple M4-powered Mac models began last autumn, and the new chip has helped grow the company’s share of the global market.
Most of the top Windows makers also saw growth last quarter, but none can match Apple’s pace.
Mac Q2 2025 shipments: Up and up!
Demand for Macs has gone up and up. Back in the second quarter of 2023, Apple shipped 4.7 million desktops and laptops worldwide. Two years later, that total hit 6.2 million, according to an estimate from IDC released Tuesday. That’s a 31% increase over two years. And the total increased 21% in only the last year, as noted.
For more perspective, Q2 2020 brought a huge surge in computer sales during the COVID pandemic because people needed to work and attend class from home, and Apple’s total hit 5.6 million Macs shipped. It’s now 10% above that level.
Apple silicon apparently plays a large part in burgeoning demand. The only time in the past year Mac didn’t see growth was Q3 2024 while shoppers were waiting for the launch of new models with the M4 chip.
Since then, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini and iMac were all upgraded with the new processor, and clearly, it’s moving computers off store shelves.
Mac growth easily outpaces Windows
None of the top makers of Windows PCs can come close to matching Apple’s growth rate. Dell shipments increased 3.7% last quarter compared to the same quarter last year, HP’s increased 1.8% while Dell shipments dropped 3%.
Although Apple remains in fourth place in the global market for desktops and laptops, its share of the market keeps increasing. Two years ago, Mac made up 7.5% of total worldwide PC shipments, and now it makes up 9.1%.
