Here’s The Craziest CES Story So Far [CES 2012]

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – This is my friend Sergio Miranda, editor of the Brazilian Apple magazine MAC+. When I ran into Sergio last night, he complained that he’d lost his glasses on arriving here at CES. He couldn’t work without them. But no worries, a friend is already flying back to Sao Paulo in Brazil to pick up a spare pair from Sergio’s home! The friend will then hop on a return flight and bring them back to Sergio in Vegas.

“What!” I said, incredulous. That’s a 12,000 mile round trip. Each leg takes more than 12 hours. Surely it’d be easier to get a pair from Walgreens on the Strip?

The explanation?

Sergio’s friend is a flight attendant on the Sao Paulo to Las Vegas route, so they’re making the trip anyway. It’s just a short detour to Sergio’s house.

Who’s done something crazy like this after forgetting or losing something on a trip? And what’s the worst thing you’ve forgotten?

My wife left her purse on the Tube on our way to Heathrow. I had to go back for it, and because it was an ‘unattended bag’ the tube was shut down for 5 minutes while they removed it. I had to go to the booth and ask for it.

If your train was late in May 2010 that might have been me.

I have a friend who went to Burning Man a few years ago.  When he arrived in Reno, he realized that he’d left his passes back at home here in Baltimore.  He called his son, who tried to get them FedExed out, but they wouldn’t get there in time for setup, to which my friend was integral.  His son ended up purchasing a round-trip ticket to Reno, flew out with the tickets, met my friend at the airport, then flew immediately back.

As a flight Attendant myself, I use to take Vanilla Wafers and Welch’s Grape Jelly to my flatmate in London when I was based there. He had grown up in the states and missed the simple things from his childhood.
