Evernote Sync Now 4X Faster

Evernote’s elephant logo is curiously appropriate. Not because it never forgets your notes, but because the service is slow, lumbering and hard to control. Now, thanks to a complete redesign of the backend servers, one aspect has improved. Sync is now, according to Evernote CEO Phil Libin, four times faster.

The problem was you. We synch far more then the text notes the sync engine was originally optimized for. We also use more devices than before. I mostly put PDFs and image notes in my Evernote, and have them available across two Macs, an iPhone and an iPad.

The new sync engine is designed for these large documents and multiple devices, and is transparent to both us, the users, and also to any third-party apps that use it. Thus, if you use any app based on Evernote, it too will sync 4X faster than it did yesterday.

Pretty neat, and one more reason to hate Evernote a little less.

I only have about 600 notes in my EN account, so I’ve never particularly noticed any performance issues when syncing. Nonetheless, it’s good to know they are optimizing and prepping for the future.
