It’s not the first of its kind, but LCARS Reader could be the iPad app of every Star Trek fan’s dreams.

LCARS stands for Library Computer Access/Retrieval System, and was the fictional user interface developed especially for use in Star Trek. The Trek crew used it on iPad-like tablets all the time.

It looks like an RSS reader, but its makers call it an “internet media reader” and say it can be used for browsing Twitter, Flickr, blogs, and Craigslist (where else can you buy authentic Romulan ale these days?).

The app costs five of your Earth dollars. Not guaranteed to work beyond the Alpha Quadrant.
