Apple unveiled “Siri” yesterday. The revolutionary technology is integrated into the iPhone 4S to bring you dictation and voice recognition capabilities that will knock your socks off.

We gave you a breakdown of how Siri compares to Google’s similar “Voice Actions” technology for Android, and Apple’s approach is leagues ahead of the competition.

If you’d like to know exactly what Siri can do for you on the iPhone 4S, an extensive list of compatible voice commands has surfaced that lets you know what Siri is capable of. Check inside for the details.

TUAW got its hands on a huge set of example phrases that Siri works with on the 4S. The examples are categorized based on the sort of tasks or requests that Siri understands.

For example, users can make Siri smarter by clarifying relationships for certain Address Book contacts:

  • My mom is Susan Park
  • Michael Manning is my brother
  • Call my brother at work
Some more examples:
Email
Checking Messages
  • Check email
  • Any new email from Michael today?
  • Show new mail about the lease
  • Show the email from Lisa yesterday

Notes

Creating and finding notes

  • Note that I spent $12 on lunch
  • Note: check out that new Alicia Keys album
  • Find my restaurant note
  • Create a reading list note
  • Add Tom Sawyer to my reading list note

Siri’s input categories:

  • Address Book: Querying Contacts, Finding Contacts, Relationships
  • Calendars: Adding Events, Changing Events, Asking About Events
  • Alarms: Setting Alarms, Checking the Clock, Using a Timer
  • Email: Sending Messages, Checking Messages, Responding to Messages
  • Friends: Checking Up on Friends
  • Maps: Directions, Local Businesses
  • Messages: Sending Texts, Reading Texts, Replying to Texts
  • Music: Playback
  • Notes: Creating and Finding Notes
  • Phone: Phone Calls
  • Reminders: Requesting Reminders
  • Stocks: Checking Stocks

Check out TUAW’s article for the full list. As Apple demoed yesterday, Siri also interfaces with web services like Wolfram Alpha and Wikipedia for answering a broad range of questions.

If this is what it seems to be, it’s the (Google) killer app, and I say that as someone who has really enjoyed the excellence of my Droid’s voice-recognition software.

No this is the feature that they keep to get you to upgrade. Like with basic voice control in iOS 3 on the 3gs and changing the home screen background in iOS 4

Bit of a dick move I know but understandable to get you to upgrade especially b/c without that the only difference b/t the 4 and 4s will be the insides

  4. Bernardo Siqueira says:

damn. it sucks, but yeah its understandable… thank you anyway.
